I’ve been creating my own DIY Home Wall Art since I was in high school and wanted to share with you how I do it! If you read my last post, I shared that I’ve been embracing the hygge lifestyle, so I have been super particular in purchasing items in my life and want to continue trying to be a minimalist!
Disclaimer
I want to make a disclaimer before I continue that I 100% support small businesses and artists and in no way would I want to stop buying art. I still purchase pieces from local artists but I do enjoy creating my own simple DIY Home Wall Art!
Additionally, I wanted to share with you how I make my own wall art. I am in love with creating graphics on Canva! I swear by it and it’s the only software I use at the moment! Usually, I’ll find inspiration on Pinterest then I start to create things on the Canva platform.

Canva is free to use but of course, you can also purchase premium which gives you access to more elements for $16.99 CAD a month.
I switch back and forth with premium as when I was a student but there were times I just couldn’t afford it. I create everything on Canva! For instance, all my social media content/graphics, YouTube thumbnails, and even my resume and cover letter!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE DIY HOME WALL ART USING CANVA:
- Head to Canva.com. You’ll see the main page that looks like the screenshot below
2. You’ll want to decide what size of graphic you want to create. You can choose based on the platform such as Instagram Posts, Pinterest Pins etc. or you can hit custom dimensions on the top right corner and input what size you want
3. Now that you’ve chosen what you’d like to create, I just chose to create an Instagram post and the custom size is a square. You can choose different templates. The tabs on the very left are all the different elements that you can add to your graphic.
4. Next would be to create your graphic. Click on the elements tab and basically type in anything you want to add into your graphic.
5. I typed in the word flowers and there will be some you’ll need pro for but hundreds of free images. Click on what you’d like and size it to how to want on the picture. You can also move it around, crop it, flip it and basically edit it to however you’d like it.
6. Now keep, adding to the graphic and play around! I added a blob as well to this one.
7. On the top right, you’ll be able to click the position of the images, transparency, you can lock the image so it doesnt move, duplicate the art or trash unwanted elements.
8. On the opposite side, you’ll find the colors you can change on the image as well. On the pro version, you can create a brand palette just like I had below and those are usually the main colors I use daily.
9. You can also add text to the graphic if you’d like! I play around with different fonts when I make my pins for my blog posts!

10. You can also find different backgrounds or just use plain colors.
11. You can even just use photos if you’d like!
12. I also upload my own photos if I want to create pins and thumbnails with my own graphics
13. Finally done! All you have to do is save it. I usually do with PNG or PDF Print.
Printing
Last but not least, printing it! A lot of people do not have printers anymore for obvious reasons. WE’RE TRYING TO SAVE THE PLANET! BUT… printing a document for your terrible.
What I usually do is save the print over to staples then I pick it up a few days later. Additionally, it costs about $.40 to around $2 depending on what paper you use.
I hope this will inspire you to create your own DIY Home Wall Art. If not, I’ve got some pre-made beige designs here. I’m excited to see what you make. If you have any questions at all, feel free to connect! Have a great weekend!
Xo,
Lynn

Canva is a delightful tool! I mostly use it for creating pins and visual poetry, but I love the idea of creating and framing some simple and pretty wall art. Framed prints or quotes would make a great gift too!
