Preheat your oven to 350F and line a square 9x9" baking pan with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, add in your melted butter, brown and white sugar, eggs, and vanilla and peppermint extract fully mix well together.
Next add in your flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and mix again.
Once all ingredients are fully combined, add in your chocolate chips/chunks and fold it slowly so it's even distributed in the batter.
Pour brownie batter into the square baking pan and make sure to spread the layer evenly to each corner so it will bake evenly .
Bake in the oven for 20 to 30 minutes or until the middle is fully cooked. You can test it by poking the middle with a toothpick or small knife and seeing the knife come out clean.
While you're waiting for the brownies to bake, you can start on your cream cheese frosting by combining all the ingredients in a bowl and mixing everything together. Fold in the candy canes last as the colour of the candy canes will come off in the frosting. Let frosting chill in the fridge!
Once your brownies are done, let cool for 30 minutes - 1 hour then frost the tops of the brownies. Optional: Add a little more crushed candy canes on top.
Serve and enjoy!
