Read more for all the details on Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce.
Vietnamese is my fav cuisine! Lemongrass chicken/pork, Pho, Fried Rolls, Spring Rolls, Banh Mi, Crepes, Vietnamese Coffee, Steamed layered cake… hmm, I could go on for days!
Last year, I did a themed Thanksgiving and the whole menu was Vietnamese-inspired. I even did a lemongrass turkey! The time I took to do these preparations humbled me. The pho broth I made boiled for 10 hours minimum! Lots of love goes into Vietnamese dishes and it really shows!
Do you like Vietnamese cuisine? What’s your favorite dish? I’d love to know in the comments below!
PIN Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce FOR LATER:
On my blog, I focus on making sure that people who feel intimidated to cook, know that it’s easy and possible to make amazing dishes with less time and effort. Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce is one of those dishes!
I have these for lunch/dinner a few times a month either by ordering take-out from my local Vietnamese restaurants OR by making them at home!
I really love making them at home because, for me, I cook with passion and I enjoy everything I create/make which is also why I love DIY projects as well. I am proud to look/taste something and think “wow, I made this”
The peanut sauce with this is what made me want to make it in the first place! I believe it was only last year where I started making these myself because I loved the sauce from the Vietnamese Restaurants. I didn’t realize that it was really only hoisin sauce and peanut butter.
This post will be accompanied by a YouTube video publishing tomorrow! Don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t!
HERE IS HOW TO MAKE Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
As these aren’t fully authentic, most of these ingredients can be found in your local grocery store! I use whatever protein I have in the fridge and sometimes, I don’t even put any noodles and just filled it with veggies!
The only difficulty you may come across might be the hoisin sauce and rice paper but luckily since they are both non-perishable items, you could purchase them online!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
Spring Rolls:
- Rice Paper
- Vermicelli Noodles
- Lettuce
- Thinly Sliced Vegetables of choice ( I use cucumber and carrots)
- Cooked Protein of Choice (I’ve used Shrimp, Chicken, Pork, Tofu etc.)
Peanut Sauce:
- Peanut Butter
- Milk
- Hoisin Sauce
- Crushed Peanuts
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
You don’t really need much to make these Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce! You could purchase a rice paper water bowl, but I just use a big plastic container to soak the rice paper.
CAN I SUB ANYTHING OUT?
The most important ingredient here is the rice paper and the peanut sauce! It wouldn’t be a Vietnamese spring roll without it! Every culture does spring roll recipes so if this isn’t your jam, there’s a lot that you can find maybe more tailored to your tastes! A big reason I love this is because of the peanut sauce!
I’m not 100% sure what Almond Butter or peanut-free butter would taste like with hoisin sauce but I think it would be just as good!
For the protein, I’ve used everything and even just packed it with vegetables so it’s really whatever you have! I’ve purposely made lemongrass tofu or chicken with it or I’ve seen leftover deli meat or rotisserie chicken!
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
One thing about Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce is that it’s definitely not a dish that’s packed with flavour. The rice paper is very flavourless and the vermicelli is as well so the protein you choose to put in it as well as the sauce really makes the dish! I like having this as a quick lunch or dinner when I have the ingredients and this makes me really full fast! I usually can only eat 3 and I’m full for the rest of the day!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
As soon as you make these Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce, I suggest you eat them right away! The rice paper does not keep well at all. Last year, I hosted Thanksgiving for my immediate family and I had a Vietnamese Cuisine-themed dinner and made these rolls at the very last minute before they came over!
I would try hard to not refrigerate them and if you do, not for more than 1-2 hours max! Even when we get Vietnamese take-out, I never save these for the next day. I usually have this first before I eat anything else.
ANY OTHER NOTES?
I love making these and Vietnamese cuisine is my favourite culture of food! I can’t emphasize this enough but try and eat these Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce immediately after making them or at least 1-2 hours of making their max! They are unpleasant to have once they are hard.
Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce
Ingredients
Spring Rolls (Per One Roll)
- 3 Piece Rice Paper
- 1 Small Bundle Vermicelli
- 3-6 Pieces Protein Shrimp, Chicken, Pork, Beef, Tofu
- Thinly Sliced Vegetables Cucumber & Carrot is best
- 3-6 Pieces Green Leaf Lettuce
Peanut Sauce
- 1 1/2 Tbsp Peanut Butter
- 1 Tbsp Hoisin Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Milk
- Crushed Peanuts (Optional) For Garnish
Instructions
Spring Rolls
- Dip your rice paper in water for about 10-20 seconds max. (Don't worry, it can still be a bit hard but will soften once you're ready to wrap it up)
- Lay the wrapper flat and to the bottom add in your veggies, vermicelli noodles and protein.
- Roll up the wrapper gently but tightly and fold in both sides. Repeat process and wrap as much as you can eat!
Peanut Sauce
- In a bowl, combine the hoisin sauce, peanut butter and milk.
- Whisk everything together until everything is well combined. Taste and adjust accordingly. If you'd like a more liquidy consistency, add in a splash more milk.
- Dip your rolls in the sauce and Enjoy!
I hope you enjoy this recipe and get super creative with it! You can literally stuff anything in it and that’s what I love about rolls, wraps, burritos, sandwiches and items like these haha! You can literally put as much of what you’d like and what you enjoy in it.
If you haven’t given Vietnamese food a try, I suggest you do it! I can’t wait to one day travel to Vietnam and try out all of this food as authentic as it can get! Travel isn’t in my future just yet so I’ll have to stick to supporting local Vietnamese Restaurants and Grocery Stores for now!
Would you make these Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce?! What would you choose as your fillings?! Let me know in the comments below!

I love the recipes you share because they are things that maybe I haven’t explored! I will be honest I am not sure if I have tried much Vietnamese foods (I could have and just not realised), but I know my partner used to love this Vietnamese food stall that was outside his work that he would sometimes get for lunch. This recipe sounds good, I probably would substitute the prawns as I don’t like them but I have never tried anything like this recipe before so I want to add it to my list to try! ☺️ Xx
