Mmm, ube. One of my most favourite flavours out there! As a Filipina, I’m such a sucker for anything ube flavoured and whenever I’d go to an Asian store with my mom, I’d pick all the ube treats out there!
I’ve seen a lot of yummy Asian flavour-inspired coffee drinks on TikTok and most of these cafes are based in America. I’ve never had this in any coffee shops yet so I thought to make my own variation of it!
I followed the general components of cold foam and just added ube extract and syrup. I made the ube syrup from scratch which is just equal parts white sugar and water on the stove with a few drops of ube extract. Basically, the same process of making simple syrup or any other flavoured syrup recipe!

I always make my iced coffees and cold brew at home especially when I want to save money! You can use whatever cold brew or iced coffee that is available to you or that you enjoy.
You’ll also need some ice of course! I actually bought the cutest little nugget ice cube trays for this! I thought it would look so pretty and I was right! Mini nugget ice cubes are the cutest!
HERE IS HOW TO MAKE UBE COLD FOAM:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
There really aren’t that many ingredients you need to prepare to make this ube cold foam coffee drink and everything can be found in the store! You’ll need heavy cream, milk OR half and half, ube syrup OR simple syrup and ube extract.
The only ingredient that would be more difficult to find would be the ube extract. I’ve only ever found ube extract in Asian grocery stores. It’s about a few bucks more or less the price of vanilla extract. Some Asian stores near me are super small and the prices of some of the products are a little more priced.
Since this is a non-perishable item, you can also just get it online and shipped to your house from elsewhere!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients to make this ube cold foam are:
- Heavy Whipping Cream
- Half and Half (breve)
- Ube Syrup
- Ube Extract
WHAT IS THE TIME BREAKDOWN TO MAKE THIS RECIPE?
The time breakdown for this recipe is literally about 5 minutes. If you have all the ingredients handy, all you really need is to shake it all up in a milk frother, mason jar or blender. The time breakdown for the ube cold foam coffee is:
To Make – the ube cold foam and shake ingredients well together
Time: 3 Minutes
To Assemble – a tall glass with ice, cold brew/iced coffee and top with ube cold foam
Time: 2 Minutes
Total time: 5 Minutes
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
You really don’t need any equipment to make this ube cold foam recipe BUT these are some of the things I recommend that you should use and that I own!
If you’re someone who doesn’t measure little recipes like your coffee creamers, then all you need is a jar to shake it up and you can free-hand the measurements of the creamers, sugars and ube extract.
If you want to create this recipe a lot of fancier, I would recommend measuring all your ingredients using measuring cups and spoons along with a nice milk frother!
CAN I SUB/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
For this recipe, it’s a little harder to substitute ingredients but if you’re looking for a dairy-free alternative, you can always use oat milk or even coconut milk for something thicker. Just a note, it may not taste the same of course!
You can welcome to add more flavours in like some vanilla or even amaretto might be delicious! Other than that, since this is a super easy and simple recipe, there isn’t much to change up!
This is a very creamy drink, so if you want it a little lighter, you can always substitute the half and half for 2% milk.
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
Ube in general is a more subtle vanilla and coconut-like taste so that’s exactly what this cold foam tastes like! I wasn’t sure if I’d love this flavour in coffee but honestly, this coffee is one I’m so glad I’ve tried and will be having forever! I love this enough to make it for some friends and family when they come over!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
With this ube cold foam coffee, you can definitely keep this for as long as your dairy products are good. Make sure you store it in an airtight container in the fridge like a mason jar and just shake it up as you’re assembling your drink.
Since this drink is super quick to make, you can easily just whip it up whenever you feel like it so you don’t need to make big batches of it.
WHAT GOES WITH THIS UBE COLD FOAM?
Just like any coffee drink, this ube cold foam goes well as:
- Your breakfast in the mornings
- Your afternoon pick-me-up
- Your next drink to serve your future guests
- Any snacks that need drinks on the side!
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS DISH?
I don’t necessarily have any inspirations that stand out BUT I have wanted to incorporate a lot more Filipino-inspired recipes into my blog. I cook a lot of Filipino dishes as it’s my husband’s favourite cuisine but I’ve rarely paused to make a step-by-step recipe for it so it’s a goal of mine this year!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
Not really any notes for this recipe. I say if taste as you go as always! So if you want more ube flavour into it, don’t be afraid to add more! The colour of ube extract is a deep and vibrant purple so don’t be alarmed if the purple colour gets stronger as you add more!
I like to add enough flavour that it accents the star of the recipe which will always be my coffee haha!

This sounds delicious. I’ve only tried ube once, but I really liked it! This is definitely a drink I can get on board with. I wonder how easy it is to get ube extract here in the UK…
Yes! It can definitely be hard to find but so yummy if you can to use in so many dishes!
YUM! This sounds super delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever tried use before to be honest, maybe this is a great way to do so.
Yes! Love this unique coffee flavour 🙂
I must say that your blog was the first time I learned about Ube Cold Foam. I love coconut, so guess I will love this drink; looks very tasty. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
Can’t wait to try this recipe, thank you for sharing! If you don’t mind me asking, which brand ube syrup and extract do you use?
Thank you, Alyssa! I make my own ube syrup which is just 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water and 2-3 tbsp of ube extract! The brands, I have used are McCormick, Ferna, and Inday’s Best. McCormick’s can be found at a lot of local stores now in my area at least. Ferna and Inday’s Best I found at Asian grocery stores. Enjoy 🙂
