I am all about super simple and easy dinners! I always have a million and one projects on the go and don’t have time to make extravagant 1-hour dinners weekly so I’m out here creating as many 30-minute dinners as I can!
I love furikake and I love salmon so I thought to put two and two together to make sweet furikake salmon! I find furikake already sweet but who doesn’t love sweet and savoury foods? Can’t be me!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE SWEET FURIKAKE SALMON:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
This recipe is super quick to cook and only has four ingredients. Yay! You can find salmon at your local grocery store/supermarket either frozen or fresh is okay. I know that not everyone has the luxury of buying fresh salmon like I do so I usually get frozen but if it’s on sale will get fresh!
Kewpie mayo which is Asian mayo is beloved in my household but regular mayo works just fine! Whatever mayo that you prefer. I also just use regular white sugar but will switch out for brown sugar which is just as delicious. Any sweetener will do as you’re just adding a little bit to the mixture.
Last but not least, furikake! I always have furikake at my house as there are lots of Asian grocery stores nearby but since this is a pantry item, you can also order online. I’ve seen it on Amazon but it is a bit pricey! The good thing about furikake is that it truly does go a long way
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
I absolutely love the fact that this recipe is literally only 4 ingredients. The ingredients to make this delicious Sweet Furikake Salmon are:
- Salmon Fillets
- Kewpie Mayo
- White Sugar
- Furikake
- Salt (optional and to taste, I don’t add salt as the mayo is enough salt for me!)
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
You don’t really need a lot of fancy equipment to make this furikake salmon. The only things you would really need are an air fryer or oven to cook the salmon. Parchment paper and a baking tray are needed for the oven method and non-stick spray is needed for the air fryer method.
CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
You sure can! Recipes on Lynn Mumbing Mejia are always a guide and not strict at all. I want everyone to feel super comfortable cooking and making their own meals as well as saving money!
If you don’t eat fish, I think tofu would be a great substitute and would really go well with the furikake taste. I’m unsure of beef or chicken but it would be worth a try on maybe a small piece to see if you like it!
You can of course always substitute the fish type and use mahi-mahi, tuna, tilapia, or whatever fish you have on hand or is on sale at the grocery store.
I really love the mayo in this but if mayo isn’t your thing at all, you can brush the top of the salmon with some light soy sauce or coconut aminos. It will definitely be saltier but it’ll be yummy too! I love salmon and soy sauce!
WHAT DOES SWEET FURIKAKE SALMON TASTE LIKE?
Oh man, this sweet furikake salmon tastes delicious! It reminds me of poke bowls in a way except it is cooked. The salmon is awesome, flaky and moist from the mayo top so if you like sushi, this is for you!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
I have meal prepped this before so I’ve kept this in my fridge for 3 days but I wouldn’t go any more than that. Definitely keeps well for next-day leftovers but is also great for meal prep. Make sure to store this in a really good airtight container and only take some when needed. Fish is intimidating to work with, I totally get it so if you’re unsure of the smell or the texture, please be safe and don’t consume!
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?
If you asked any of my family, they could tell you how much I enjoy Hawaiian foods! I genuinely love every Hawaiian recipe out there and I’m not exaggerating. If there’s a Hawaiian recipe or food out there, I’m trying it out. I even had a Hawaiian-themed food menu for my birthday a few years back and cooked everything I loved!
I also of course, really love poke bowls so this just seemed like the best of both worlds for me. I always have furikake and mayo on hand at home and thought it would the best combination. I do like my foods sweet and savoury too so here it is! The start of sweet furikake salmon that I’m finally sharing.
ANY OTHER NOTES?
No other notes for this one, I think I covered it all! My quick go-to meal when salmon is on the list and loved by everyone in my household so it’s enjoyable to make while saving time! I change from cooking my salmon in the oven and air fryer so I just quickly wrote directions for both!
Sweet Furikake Salmon
Ingredients
- 4 Salmon Fillets fresh or frozen
- 1/2 Cup Mayo kewpie works best but any is fine!
- 1 Tbsp Sugar or any sweetener of choice
- Furikake as much as your heart desires
- Salt to taste, but OPTIONAL as the mayo has salt already
Instructions
Air fryer Method
- Pat dry your salmon fillets with a paper towel and salt to your preference then set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix in your mayo and sugar really well and scoop an even amount on each salmon fillet on top. Spread so that the top of each salmon is covered in the mayo mixture.
- Sprinkle your furikake on top generously then place it in the air fryer.
- Cook at 400F for 10-15 minutes or until the top is nice and golden brown.
- Serve on a bed of hot white rice and any veggies or salad you have at home and enjoy!
Oven Method
- Preheat your oven to 400F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Follow steps 1-3 but instead of placing the salmon into the air fryer, place your salmon onto your baking sheet on top of the parchment paper and space it apart evenly.
- Cook at 400F for 20-25 minutes or until the top is nice and golden brown.
- Serve on a bed of hot white rice and any veggies or salad you have at home and enjoy!
