Hey lovelies, I’m Amy from amymarshment.com. It’s a pleasure to create this post for Lynn and to delve into my social media experiences. I love to create conversations and meet new people. I believe that you can learn something powerful through meaningful relationships! I’d love for you to join me across my socials so that we can learn together and have a natter. You’ll find all of my links at the bottom of this post!
Do you love social media as much as I do? I’m absolutely glued to the scrolling of Instagram, the aesthetic nature of Pinterest, and the networking of Twitter. These platforms have created a wealth of opportunity and helped me form beautiful relationships with fellow content creators.

Where did my love for social media all begin?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved to keep up with social media. I’ve forever followed inspiring creators, loved to explore news stories, and looked up to the sheer talent of people’s way of styling an image and caption.
I originally set up a blog and social channels and it grew quite quickly. This was a couple of years ago now. However, I was desperately unhappy with myself and the content that I was putting out. I didn’t feel that passion or enthusiasm and I wasn’t attracting the right audience into my feeds. So, that was deleted! My Instagram was over 2k followers as well, but what I’ve learned is that numbers aren’t everything.
It’s better to gain traction and followers that love what you do and that you love to be inspired by rather than an audience that isn’t right for you. I recently set up my blog and socials during the pandemic and I’ve managed to collaborate with bloggers, brands, and businesses to create magic together. I look forward to going on my Instagram feed now which in turn spurs me on to engage more, creating a ripple effect of growth and opportunity.

Where am I at now?
I seriously couldn’t be happier. I look forward to posting and engaging, plus I love the community that’s growing with me on my socials. It’s a space for me to remain authentic and also be a huge cheerleader to support other creators and grow together. With social media, comes a lot of planning, time, and energy- this is in no way a negative though! I absolutely adore it.
I find that Twitter and Instagram work in perfect harmony and I’d say that Twitter has helped to support my growth on Instagram for sure. There’s so much opportunity to join threads to showcase your work, swap links, and encourage each other.
That leads nicely onto my top two tips for Instagram growth (as I spend most of my time and collaborate mostly on Instagram). My two top tips are networking and engagement.
Networking
I can’t recommend networking enough. You’re more likely to gain followers and connections after you’ve started a conversation and become familiar. Sometimes, I’ve not even realised that I’m not following someone back until we’ve had an awesome conversation which leads me to check out their profile. Networking has definitely helped me to gain confidence, expand my horizons, and gain an ever-growing network of fantastic people. One thing that I’ve learned is to set goals when it comes to growth, but not make numbers everything. It’s exciting to see your followers or connections grow, but never neglect who’s already in your community! Which leads on to…
Engagement
Engaging is a technique that should be authentic, fun, and very very consistent. I actually wrote a post which goes into this in more detail called Why you don’t always need to create content, engage, engage, engage.
You can’t expect people to come and share the love for your page consistently if you’re not willing to return it. Think of it as a conversation, they are two way! I’d recommend commenting and saving at least 10 posts on your Instagram feed a day. Try and leave thoughtful comments that address the caption where possible. Also share the love for accounts and images that make you stop and think to your stories! This is a great way to grow closer to your audience.
Ultimately you should create content that you’d want to see and that you love, listen to what your audience wants, and as always share the love for your favourite creators.
I could talk for hours when it comes to engagement and growth, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me!
All the best,
Amy

Yes! I agree. Social media is so fun! Thank you for reading xx
There are some great points here. One of them that I don’t see discussed enough is fostering the bond with the existing audience, like you said. It’s awful to think some followers, subscribers, etc could feel like now that they’re in the bag they’re not important anymore. So, this is a good reminder to appreciate those who already support you.
Thank you for reading, Miche xx
Ohh a guest post from Amy. Hi to the two of you together! Xx so yes networking and engagements are really the key you’re spot on. But my experience so far has been better on engaging and I have to try networking more. Thanks for your insight on this Amy! And for Lynn to post! <3

Such a great post! ? in Twitter I talk to a lot of people, but somehow I always forget to comment on Instagram, I just like a lot. I can see how commenting could make the experience more fun though, so I’m going to try to make a habit of it more!

My interest in Instagram has been really low for over a year but in the last week, with a big change, I’ve gotten back motivation to post and engage on it. But I have to say, I’ve been focusing more on creating content because I haven’t created proper content in so long. I do need to engage much more. Thank you for reminding me! 10 comments a day at least should work.
This is such an interesting post! I’ve also really come to the conclusion that networking is really important.

Yes! Instagram engagement is fun but time consuming! Thank you for reading, Dani xx
Social media is fun and tho it has it’s cons, it has amazing benefits. I feel like growing your audience isn’t just about posting regularly but engaging and interacting with people. I use twitter more than any other social media account and I have met and interacted with people on there and it’s just awesome. I use it for my blog and it is an amazing platform for bloggers. I have Instagram but I rarely use it. Twitter is relatively easier to use compared to Instagram haha. I am focusing on Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook for now. I would get to Instagram later and I would definitely use your tips! They are amazing. I need to engage more and network more. I’ll definitely keep that at the back of my mind.
Yes! I love social media. Its such an amazing and fun tool. Thank you for reading, Ruth xx

LOVE the tips. I am a full time teacher and part-time (all the time I’m not teaching) writer. This leaves little time for the ever important social media interaction. And it seems whenever I get on a good role, life gets in the way, and my social media is always the first to go. I’m trying out a new schedule, but will refer back here again and a again to try new things. Thanks for posting!

I love social media too, and some great advice in there! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for commenting xx
Two of my favorite bloggers! I love this collab, and Amy’s growth in social media is really inspiring. Last year or so, my Instagram feed was horrible. So I spent some time scrolling through my following, and removing people who were inactive, didn’t post things I wanted to see, etc. Now, most of my Insta is filled with memes, photos of my friends, and other things I like viewing. But Twitter is still one of my favorites, especially with all the bloggers I have connected with. Networking is so important and a great chance to meet amazing people.
It may seem intimidating, but I tell myself, they’re people like me, and aren’t going to judge me for commenting.
Aw, thanks so much Sejal! You are so sweet! Love networking too! Thank you for reading, Sejal xx

Thanks for these advices Amy. Networking is really something I’m trying to work on especially on Twitter. As for Instagram, I’m struggling with engagement. I will take your advice and start commenting the posts I like as well as saving more posts. Hopefully I should see an improvement with time. Nice collaboration!

I agree that you gotta love what your are creating or else it becomes a chore and is no longer fun. When you actually enjoy what your are putting out, it makes all the difference. Your website seems to be doing great, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for reading! x
Amy you are absolutely amazing! It’s hard to connect with people who genuinely enjoy connecting and engaging with their following online. You are one of a few. I always look forward to chatting with you.
It’s so great to put a face to a name and actually get to know other bloggers. I am so happy to have been able to get to know you.
I am really trying to get better at engaging on social media myself. It can get a bit overwhelming but I really try to respond back to everyone.
Thank you again for sharing!
