We are back with another Food from TV or Movie post and today we are attempting to try out the Eggplant Burger with Chocolate Sauce from Scooby-Doo!
I love doing this series as it is super light-hearted and fun! If you’re new to the blog, I release a YouTube video and Blog Post every third Thursday of every month!
I try and recreate the foods I try from TV and movie as best and as simple as I can, based on how I feel the character would make it too!
Last month, I did a blog post on The Ultimate List of Halloween Family Friendly Movies so you bet while I was writing this post, I was watching all the movies on the list! I re-watched Scooby-Doo and came across the part where Shaggy and Scooby make Eggplant Burgers in their van. They put chocolate sauce and hot sauce on it and I thought it would be neat to try it out!
Have you watched any Halloween movies yet? What’s your favourite movie? Let me know in the comments!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE SCOOBY-DOO’S EGGPLANT BURGER WITH CHOCOLATE SAUCE:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
This recipe was super easy to make and really only requires 3 ingredients. The 3 ingredients in this recipe include a burger bun, eggplant and chocolate sauce. I just used a chocolate sauce that you would normally put on sundaes. I bought a western eggplant which is a thicker one but can be found in the pantry section usually where the ice cream toppings are. There is a Chinese long eggplant that you can use but it would be a bit harder to make a “patty” out of this but can be found in the produce section. As for the buns, you get just use any from the bakery section of your store.
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients to make Scooby-Doo’s Eggplant Burger are:
- Burger Bun
- Eggplant Patties
- Chocolate Sauce
WHAT TYPE OF EGGPLANT SHOULD I USE?
There are a lot of different kinds of eggplant but the one appropriate to cut for an eggplant burger patty is a western eggplant. Western Eggplant is thicker and more plump than other eggplants. You can use other eggplants if you don’t have western eggplant in your grocery store, it would just look a bit different and you’ll just need to cut more slices to fill up the burger bun diameter.
WHAT IS THE TIME BREAKDOWN TO MAKE THIS RECIPE?
The time breakdown to make these easy Eggplant Burgers is really only about 15-25 minutes. The only thing that needs to cook is the eggplant which doesn’t take took long! It just needs to soften. The entire time to make this burger includes:
To Prepare– this includes cutting the eggplant and toasting the buns
Time: 5 Minutes
To Cook– this includes panfrying the eggplant pieces
Time: 15 Minutes
Total time from start to finish: 20-25 Minutes
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
For these Eggplant Burgers, you really don’t need too much equipment. You’ll need a spatula, knife, cutting board, and a pan for shallow frying.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO PREPARE?
The steps to make Scooby-Doo’s Eggplant Burger are:
- Prepare – all the ingredients and toast the buns
- Cook & Combine – all the eggplant and place on bun topped with chocolate sauce
- Plate and Serve – and enjoy!
CAN I SUB/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
Since this is a recipe especially inspired by a movie, there isn’t anything I would really substitute or add. If you were to switch anything out, it wouldn’t be like the movie anymore but in reality, I would switch and add lots of things out!
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
Oh man, I would never make this again. The texture and flavour are super weird. The brioche bun I used is sweet, the eggplant is savoury and slimy. The chocolate sauce is just way too much to tie it all together! It was a fun video to do but I wouldn’t do it again haha.
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
If you ever end up ending to make Scooby-Doo’s Eggplant Burger, it should be eaten immediately. The eggplant in the bun with chocolate sauce would just end up being soggy in the long run.
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS DISH?
I re-watched both live-action movies of Scooby-Doo, the first and the second one, while writing my post on family-friendly Halloween movies and saw this clip and thought it would be fun to do in my series!
I love Scooby-Doo and enjoy rewatching it so it definitely was a treat for me despite the taste of the actual dish.
COST OF THIS EGGPLANT BURGER WITH CHOCOLATE SAUCE?
Scooby-Doo’s Eggplant Burger uses ingredients that you may already have at home and if not, you can certainly just purchase these in the grocery store. This eggplant burgers recipe uses very common ingredients so you can find it anywhere!
Based on my groceries in CAD, if you were buying EVERYTHING from scratch:
Scooby-Doo’s Eggplant Burger
- Brioche Buns (4 Pieces) – $3.27
- Eggplant (0.5 kg) – $3.00
- Chocolate Sauce (428ml) – $4.80
Total: $11.07 (not all the ingredients were used and leftovers can be used for other recipes)
As all of these ingredients are new, if you just priced out the actual ingredients used in one eggplant burger, it would come up to about $1.50.
ANY OTHER NOTES?
No notes! I would recommend trying this if you’re a fan of Scooby-Doo, doing it for fun with a friend or tricking your kiddos haha. Other than that, this one was not an enjoyable recipe and wouldn’t recommend it.
Scooby-Doo’s Eggplant Burger with Chocolate Sauce
Ingredients
- 4 Brioche Buns
- 1 Western Eggplant sliced into 1 1/2 inch disks
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil to fry eggplant
- Chocolate Sauce
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Butter to brush on buns
Instructions
- Once you've sliced your eggplant disks, salt them to drain out moisture. Salt each side and let it sit for about 10 minutes and wipe the salt away. Flip over and do the same.
- In a pan, on medium-high, add butter to a pan and toast your buns.
- Once you buns are toasted, remove from stove and added in your olive oil.
- Fry your eggplant til cooked thoroughly. Add salt and pepper if needed.
- Place each eggplant patty on each bun and add some chocolate sauce.
- Plate, serve and enjoy!
I would probably never make this again haha and give it a 3/10 with just the eggplant and chocolate sauce and would give it a 3.3/10 to add hot sauce! Only slightly better.

I was like OKAY BUT WHAT DID IT TASTE LIKE the whole time I was reading this lmao. The title alone made me think that everyone who says Shaggy spends his days high, were right and I can not argue it any more lol!

I love posts like these! They’re so creative and fun. I’m not a huge fan of eggplant and I’m sure combined with the other ingredients the texture would be weird haha. I’m glad you had fun recreating this recipe from Scooby-Doo! Thanks for sharing!

You’re a braver woman than I am. There was no way this was going to work, yet I just had to see what you thought about it. I think it’s fair to say that Shaggy and Scooby have a palate that is unique to them and it should be left there.
