Have you put a deposit down on a new rental place but fully intend to get that money back?! No problem, I got you! My husband and I are still currently renting our home and we’re super careful about any damage.
Home decor is super important to me and makes me happy so I could not not decorate! Especially now that we’re spending lots of time at home, it’s extra important to make sure that your home is cozy.
Of course, Lawrence and I plan to buy our dream home within the next 3-5 years so everything we have is rental friendly for now!

Here are my 7 Rental Friendly Home Decor Tips:
Space your money out
How great does it feel to be in a new space? I get it! It took me every ounce of my being to not splurge on my home decor immediately after moving in. One of my goals of course is to buy things intentionally so feel free to take your time and buy things you really want. I’ve been living at my current place for 5 months and my walls are still bare and the house technically still echos because it’s empty and that’s okay! Save your money, buy the things you want and your home WILL come together.
Invest in your wall adhesive
Learned this the hard way but make sure that if you decide to hang light frames or items on the wall, purchase decent adhesive and not a cheap off-brand one! The paint on the walls will thank you & any extra work patching the paint up when you move out!
DIY what you can with what you have
I love DIY decor and repurposing whatever I have at home. I’m not super eco-friendly but I love living simple and clutter-free so if you have a spare vase that you can give a makeover to, do it! I’ve literally learnt so much from 30-sec Tiktoks lately!

IKEA/Dollarama is your best friend
PSA: BUYING FROM IKEA OR DOLLARAMA IS OKAY. There are so many comments from people about buying from IKEA and Dollarama but especially if you’re renting and potentially saving money to buy, IKEA/Dollarama is the way to do this! Lawrence and I spent a total of about $1500 when we first moved in and this included a dining table, chairs, futon couch, console/tv table, bookshelf, coat rack, shoe rack, bed frame, mattress and computer desk and we bought everything from IKEA/Dollarama and second hand on Facebook marketplace.
Less is more
I know that minimalism is not for everyone but having less but meaningful decor is way more important than filling your space and feeling suffocated. It might not feel this way but something small goes a long way!
Focus on interchangeable decor
You all know me loving whites and beige! I love that I can take my pieces and change their places around the house! Especially if you have the same colour scheme throughout your whole house, you can change the vase placement, change the pictures on the wall etc. and this way you can save money and still freshen up the place a bit!
Budget money on flowers, plants, dried greens!
It’s always nice to have a touch of nature in your home so I always recommend budgeting a bit of money on this. I normally pick up some fresh flowers while doing my grocery shopping once every 2-3 months and Lawrence picks up a bouquet for special occasions too! I would love to be a plant mom one day but right now, I can’t take care of my plants but they are such a beautiful addition to any room! As for something low maintenance, highly recommend dried eucalyptus or dried bunny tails/pampas grass!
I would love to see your rental-friendly home decor tips! Tag me in anything you share 🙂

Great tips! I bought a house, but I still don’t want to damage what isn’t neccesary and these things help. And IKEA is always amazing haha
Congratulations! I can’t wait until I can purchase my dream home too! I agree the less permanent nails/holes etc the better!
Plants definitely add a lil more something whether in my room or living room. I love having some green especially when it’s dull during the winter 🙂
Great tips, I enjoyed reading this!

Being crafty is a great thing! Thank you for reading 🙂
Good tips! My hubby and I tried those cheap wall adhesive hooks and yeah, they suck! I love that you are taking time to bring your home together in a way you love with items you love, and being minimal about it too. This will make your home so peaceful and lovely in the long run.

Absolutely, Thanks so much for reading! Shopping intentionally a the key to a happier and cleaner mindset! 🙂
These are really great tips, it’s such a struggle to try and make a place homely, get your deposit back and not be tempted to spend a fortune on somewhere that isn’t yours. Plants are so good for filling space and giving a room a little more character x

Agreed! Thank you lovely 🙂
I loved this post! I thought it was really great you took rental properties into account. I also love dried flowers. They make excellent decor but without the maintenance of real flowers phew.

Amazing to hear! Thanks so much 🙂
I rent my current property, so these decor ideas will come in useful! Checking Facebook marketplace is a great way to save money, and I love storage shelves from Ikea. The place I live in has a collection of flats, so we have a community Facebook page, where people sometimes offer furniture for free. Never seen anything I like on there, but it is useful to know that, that is available. Thank you for sharing such a helpful post. ?
Oh, that’s great! Love hearing people help each other out and give away free items! It really helps especially if rent is expensive in your area 🙂 Thanks so much!
Some great tips and tricks, a couple I haven’t thought of before that I might use for my own home, haha! Great post 🙂

Great ideas! I rent too and I can’t not not decorate either. I use adhesives for pictures too. Also buying flowers and plants really do help make it feel like your own personal space! xx
Adhesive is the best for frames 🙂 Thanks a lot for stopping by!
These are some great tips not just for rental but for ones’ own house too. I liked the idea of more is less and buying some quality adhesive tapes. The idea is to turn a house into a home, even if you are renting it, and you really did this.
Exacly! Thank you for reading 🙂
Such great tips! I have been renting with my sisters and plan to rent our own flat soon, so these will surely be helpful xx
