Canned salmon is a hit or miss for a lot of people. I know that so many people obviously love fresh salmon as do I but I have to admit that I am perfectly happy with canned salmon most months!
If you read one of my more recent posts, I shared that I’m trying to use more of my pantry items! I like pantry items in general because, unlike fresh food, you have more time to think about what to do with them.
Whenever I get fresh groceries, I feel like I’m constantly thinking about using it all up before it goes bad and gets wasted, and sometimes, only bulk products are available so you end up getting a little more than you expected.
I find that people speak poorly on pantry items because they are “unhealthy” but it’s so important to acknowledge that they are convenient and also affordable for a lot of people! I can’t stand people who speak poorly about food. We’ve got to be thankful that we are able to have what we have.
Do you often have canned items? I’d love to know your thoughts below!

This recipe is a bit similar to crab cakes. Crab cakes are one of my fav appetizers to get whenever I can dine in at a nice seafood restaurant!
My family is big fans of seafood and we often go fishing and crabbing and enjoy seafood together. We are big outdoors people so it’s a common activity we do in the summer.
These Quick Canned Salmon Patties are perfect, moist, crunchy, crispy and they really hold their shape. I actually created this on a whim and did not preplanned it! I’d love to make it again sometime soon and take nicer photos! It was pretty late in the evening when I made these.
Are these Quick Canned Salmon Patties something you’d try? Let me know below!
HERE IS HOW TO MAKE Quick Canned Salmon Patties:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
Aside from the vegetables, these ingredients are canned and you could get them from most grocery stores. I believe canned salmon can be found all over the world but I may be wrong. Alternatively, if you have leftover salmon from dinner the night before, you could use that as well!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The amazing thing about these Quick Canned Salmon Patties is that you can add whatever you have on hand. These patties are very vegetable-heavy so you can definitely alter the number/amount of vegetables in this!
If you don’t have Italian breadcrumbs, you could use regular breadcrumbs and just add dried parsley, basil, rosemary, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, red pepper, and black pepper.
- Canned Salmon
- Italian Breadcrumbs
- Mayo
- Eggs
- Yellow Pepper
- Onion
- Green Onion
- Tomato
- Parsley
- Celery
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Salt
- Pepper
- Olive Oil To Fry
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
For this Quick Canned Salmon Patties recipe, you’ll need a bowl to mix everything in as well as a spoon or spatula. You can shape these patties by hand OR use a circle cookie cutter and stuff the mix into shape. To cook, you’ll need a shallow frying pan and that’s about it!
CAN I SUB ANYTHING OUT?
You sure can! Honestly, you can make patties out of whatever you’d like. You can keep it vegetarian and do some mashed chickpeas or lentils. You can use canned chicken, tuna, or pork. It’s really up to you what you’d like the protein source to be.
For the vegetables, you can use whatever you have on hand which is one of the many reasons why I love this recipe so much! It’s such a super quick dinner idea and so helpful when not knowing what to do with leftover or about to go bad veggies!
The mayo really keeps everything moist and not too dry as mayo is very oily but you can definitely do a healthier swap like sour cream or whole Greek yogurt or tzatziki sauce as well! The egg binds everything together so its totally fine to swap out the mayo.
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
Tastes amazing! The flaky salmon is the best because you get some in each bite. The veggies are super crunchy and the Italian breadcrumbs tie it all together! They are similar to the texture of I guess a crab cake? I haven’t had crab cakes in so long but I would compare it to that!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
As with any fish dish, I would eat these Quick Canned Salmon Patties fresh but if there’s too much like for me, I stored 4 in the fridge and ate it with my salad the next day for lunch! Fish is tricky because they honestly don’t keep that well in the fridge and as odd as this sounds, I don’t like fishy-smelling fish!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
Not a lot of notes for this one BUT:
Definitely not a must but it is nice to chill the mix a little bit! I find it a lot easier to shape.
If you can, it’s best to use crunchy vegetables but if you’re using vegetables that will be going bad soon, that’s totally okay!
