Pumpkin pie… A love/hate pie by many people I find! That is probably the reason why every Thanksgiving most people have an assortment of pies such as apple, pecan, cherry etc!
I personally love pumpkin although people say that people who like pumpkin spice just like cinnamon. I love using pumpkin in baked goods and for savoury dishes too! Pumpkin gives off a very mild flavour but is incredibly moist and gives an awesome earthy balance.
Do you pumpkin or just pumpkin pie spice? I’d love to know in the comments!
PIN Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies FOR LATER:
Pies are a hit and miss for me. To me, pies are a classic and comforting dessert. I tend to only have pies when berries and peaches are seasonal or during the holidays!
Other than those times, I don’t really crave pies for dessert. I’m definitely more of a cake person and love having cakes for dessert when I can!
What I love about these hand pies is that I can just easily pick one up and eat it or even take it on the go! No need for serving utensils.
What is your favourite type of dessert? Is it pie? cake? ice cream? mousse? Let me know below!
HERE IS HOW TO MAKE PUMPKIN CREAM CHEESE HAND PIES:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients for these pumpkin cream cheese hand pies are super easy to find. Aside from the pie crust and cream cheese, everything else is non-perishable so you can keep it in your cupboard for a long time and buy it online if it’s not available at your local store. The pre-made pie crust and cream cheese can be found in the dairy or frozen section of the grocery store. You can, of course, make it from scratch too!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients to make these easy individual hand pies are:
- Pre-made Pie Crust 2 sheets
- Pumpkin Pie Filling
- Softened Cream Cheese
- Cinnamon
- Pumpkin Pie Spice
- Vanilla Extract
- Brown Sugar
- Maple Syrup
- Egg Wash (optional)
WHAT TYPE OF PIE CRUST SHOULD I USE?
I almost always use the Pillsbury pie crusts as they are super convenient and affordable. You can find these in the frozen pastry section but my grocery stores have a small section dedicated to Pillsbury products.
You can alternatively make your own pie crusts which I have yet to do! This is a super easy ingredients list to make your own pie crust:
WHAT IS THE TIME BREAKDOWN TO MAKE THIS RECIPE?
These Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies are super easy and quick to make and honestly, require very little work. The time breakdown for this recipe is:
To Prepare – this includes measuring all the ingredients, mixing them in one bowl till smooth, cutting the pie crusts and filling each pie with the mixture
Time: 15 Minutes
To Bake – this includes the baking time in the oven
Time: 12 Minutes
Total time from start to finish: 27 Minutes
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
The equipment needed to make these Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies are a baking tray, spatula, mixing bowl and optionally a pumpkin cookie cutter. You don’t necessarily need to use a pumpkin cutter. You can always just use a circle one or just cut them into squares but they definitely look a lot cuter! You’ll hopefully have all these items at home already but the cookie cutters. I bought a Halloween pack from Amazon that I love and will continue using!
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO PREPARE?
The steps to make these Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies are:
- Prepare & Measure – all the ingredients, cut each pie shape and fill it with the pumpkin cream cheese filling
- Bake – the pies in the oven
- Cool, Plate and Serve – and enjoy!
CAN I SUB/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
These Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies are made up of simple ingredients so there isn’t that much to substitute out. If you want to make this sugar-free, you are welcome to remove the maple syrup and brown sugar and use a bit of Splenda or other sugar substitutes.
I’d of course keep the pumpkin as it is pumpkin pie inspired but if you don’t like pumpkin, any other toppings you’d like works. I love doing these with blueberry or apple filling.
As for the pie crusts, I usually would keep this but you can swap out the pastry for any other premade dough like biscuit or crescent dough!
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
These Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies are the best hand pies to make for Fall. Pumpkin everything is the ultimate Fall flavour so having these mini pies are great.
The texture of these pumpkin cream cheese hand pies is very crunchy and soft inside from the filling. It is sweet with the brown sugar and maple syrup combination and savoury from the cream cheese.
I liked making these Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies because they aren’t too sweet. I don’t love sweet desserts so this was just perfect!
If you want to make this vegan, you can also swap out the cream cheese for vegan cream cheese. If you just don’t like cream cheese but don’t have any dietary restrictions, you can make a simple custard cream filling.
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
These Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies keep for up to a week in the fridge. Make sure to not leave these on the counter as the cream cheese is a dairy product!
You can heat them up before eating them or take them out to adjust to room temperature. I love either eating them cold or eating them warm with a scoop of ice cream, no in-between.

INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS DISH?
This inspiration to make these Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies came from the fact that I absolutely love pumpkin pie! I think aside from one or two family members, I’m the only one who eats it.
I like making hand pies as I find them much easier to eat at any time and I don’t need to whip out the pie from the fridge every time I want a slice.
My husband and I love anything with cream cheese in it so I wanted to add that creaminess to this dessert!
I loved making these with my pumpkin cookie cutter but it’s totally optional! If you have it, it’s not much additional work and around the end of August-October, you can easily pick one up from your local dollar store.
HOW CAN I MEAL PREP THIS RECIPE?
You sure can meal prep this recipe and just take it to eat after lunch or even for breakfast! All you need to do is individually wrap them up to enjoy every day and take it out of the fridge.
Just remember to not let it sit out for that long as it does contain dairy!
COST OF THESE PUMPKIN CREAM CHEESE HAND PIES?
These Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies use ingredients that you may already have at home. The batch I made makes about 10 hand pies due to the crust but there was plenty of ingredients leftover so you’re able to make more if you just bought more pie crusts!
Based on my groceries in CAD, if you were buying EVERYTHING from scratch:
Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies
- Pie Crust (400g) – $3.80
- Canned Pumpkin (796ml) – $4.90
- Cream Cheese (250g) – $4.28
- Cinnamon (150g) – $2.70
- Pumpkin Pie Spice (35g) – $5.25
- Pure Vanilla Extract (46ml) – $7.65
- Brown Sugar (1000g) – $3.25
- Maple Syrup (375g) – $9.65
Total: $41.48 (not all the ingredients were used and leftovers can be used for other recipes)
As all of these ingredients are new, if you just priced out the actual ingredients used in these Pumpkin Cream Cheese Hand Pies, it would come up to about $10.
ANY OTHER NOTES?
No other notes for this one! These pumpkin cream cheese hand pies are delicious and perfect for Fall. It is not a sweet dessert so you may want to add in more sugar or syrup to make it sweet or even prepare frosting on the side!
