2021 is so close and it definitely feels like it flashed before my eyes. Can you believe that we were all wishing that this year would be over sooner? I have learned so much of myself this year.
I worked from home from the end of March 2020 to the beginning of August 2020 then I got laid off. It was a really sad time and I was angry for a little bit. I picked myself up and thought that this would be an excellent time to focus on content creation.
PIN FOR LATER:
Ever since then, I’ve been making videos, writing blog posts, taking photos, editing and everything in between. I made a vow to myself that I was going to focus on what I love. Thanks to my supportive husband, it was possible for me to do so!
My journey to have a routine/system that worked for me wasn’t always the case. It wasn’t until November that I fully decided on my goals and vision. I know that everyone will have a different case but this is what worked for me and I hope would work for you too!
HERE ARE 5 Productivity Tips For 2021:
Wake up before 9 am
While I was testing my schedule and what worked with me, I tried waking up at different times to see what was manageable. I would wake up at 5 am, 7 am, 10am, 11am until I finally decided that I was going to stay within the work hours of 9-5pm give or take any projects that require weird/more hours! I found that waking up between 7-830 am gave me plenty of quiet time, lots of light for filming and ending my work day around 5-6pm allowed me to spend more time with my husband.

If you’ve got a nice tall table or desk, try doing a standing desk. Way better for posture and it’ll make you feel less icky! When I’m sitting for long periods of time, my body feels super gross so it’s nice to take a few hours to stand and work.
Organize your week
Okay, so honestly I am the last person to give this advice out haha. I am so disorganized BUT I also organize my day the night before if that makes sense. I list out what I’m doing tomorrow so I’m not completely lost. It helps me, especially for film days. I know some people are much better with this than me but it’s something that I’m continuously working on!
Notepad & Pen
My brain moves at 1 million miles an hour and to not forget anything, I always write things down! You could use your phone notes/whiteboard as well if you’re paper-free 🙂
Work in an open space
I am lucky enough to have my own office in our house but I actually prefer to work in the living room. Our living room is an open concept design and I love opening all the windows and all the space to myself! I also love that I can get coffee or something warm in the kitchen whenever I want.
Recently, I was GIFTED this beautiful canvas from Photowall.
Photowall is a company located in Skarpnäck near Stockholm, Sweden that creates beautifully designed wallpaper, prints, posters, canvas, and custom-made products.
When Lawrence and I got married, I had this vision of having a huge canvas of our favourite wedding picture in our home. I was thrilled that Photowall reached out for a collaboration! I was shocked that my print arrived so quickly! When we received our canvas, we assembled it together easily and hung it in our living room! The quality is wonderful and they got every little detail. I’m so happy with it and I’m thinking of purchasing something else soon!
Thank you to Photowall for my custom canvas print!
Xo,
Lynn

My kiddo has been waking me up before 9am lately and while I notice I get a little extra work done, I also find I need a nap at some point of the day. I know people argue this is healthy but sometimes it leave me feeling worse lol.
Canvas prints are so pretty! My mom was obsessed with them last year and sent us so many we’ve run out of wall space! I definitely need to find a place for the larger ones she’s sent!

Naps are the best! I usually take naps too or sleep early when I just tired haha Agreed! This is my first Canvas print and it’s so pretty! Was so happy to get this beautiful piece from our wedding in our livingroom! Thank you 🙂
I’ll certainly keep these in mind for 2021! I really need to stop sitting so much, my poor back’s paying the price 🙁
I’ve heard of photo wall in the past, and I will check out their store right after this. Something I’m going to try in 2021 is batching, where a certain day is for a task. (like Monday for writing, and Tuesday for scheduling tweets, etc)
Yes! I can’t stay sitting for more than 2 hours at a time. It makes me feel a little gross!
Yup! That is the best, I haven’t planned for January yet but that’s what I did for November/December. I did a lot of filming for my holiday content so I had to split my days (video editing, content scheduling, content writing, social media planning etc) It helped me soo much!
Great tips Lynn! It sounds like your year and my year have been fairly similar. Though I’ve been off work a little longer because of a work injury before covid hit. But then everything shut down in March and I was officially laid off in July. Like you I decided to make the best of my time by dedicating it to my blog and developing some digital products. I’m still trying to get used to working at home and making a schedule that works well for that. It’s a big adjustment from my last job which was incredibly physical. I love the standing desk idea – thanks!
Thanks so much fro reading Clarissa! I can’t wait to see what you have planned for 2021! xo
I’m an early riser at around 5.30am, I find I’m super productive and can usually fit in a small 20 minute workout, get dinner started for the evening, make lunches for work and spend some time blogging all before I leave for work at 7.30! I feel great the rest of the day then.
I love photowall. That print is so lovely x
Wow 530 am!! Amazing, I wish I could get up that early! I used to work morning shifts and I’d get up at 5 am and I really liked it! You’ve got a great schedule, thank you for stopping by! xo
Great tips!
Thank you!
These tips are great! An open space and a standing desk are vital for me to function well. I never thought about standing desks until I had one and now I can’t do without, especially when 4 o’clock hits me and I get tired.
Exactly! I’m the same way. Thank you for stopping by 🙂
These are great tips, Lynn! I have been struggling lately with being productive, sleeping far too much and work. So I will try to start organising my day before hand as you suggested! Thanks for sharing x
Thanks Cristina! You’re right, I’m in a holiday void too where I’m just sleeping and eating haha
These are great tips – I love how you shared what worked for you. Also, your photowall is beautiful!

Thanks for stopping by Lex!
I definitely could use every one of these tips for being organized. I like the idea of including my environment in that. Spending so much time inside it is a great idea for motivation.
Thanks for reading Zoe!
Love all of these productivity tips. Having a standing desk is so important, we often forget to get up and take a break, so at least being able to stand and work will help you fine. Big on waking up early too. You get to do more throughout your day! Being able to see your notes in a visual format is helpful. So many different alternatives for those who want to stay green, but yes with whiteboard! Thanks for sharing all of these different tips!
Nancy ✨
Agreed! Thanks Nancy!
Those are all SO helpful! I have been working on a schedule for the new year, too, and I also want to wake up before 9am and be done with work by 5pm. And I definitely need a notebook for all my notes.
That’s great to hear! I hope you get your schedule down soon 🙂 Thank you!
Honestly waking up before 9am is a must considering work has to be done and if you want more time to do things you need to get up earlier! I also love having post it notes everywhere because they’re easier for me to write on and then stick where I can see them in order to make sure what I wrote gets done. (:

Glad you do some of these too! Thanks for stopping by girl 🙂
I am a list lover and am constantly making lists in my phone notes. My main goal is to work on waking up at the same time every day. With homeschooling, the pandemic and now the holidays, our sleep schedules are all over the place. Bookmarking this to refer back to – this is all great advice!
Great tips! I can’t agree more on standing desk. They help improve posture. Your new canvas is beautiful!

Great tips! I also love organising plans for the next day the night before and waking up earlier definitely helps me do more.
Your canvas is so lovely.
Thanks so much!
I work from home too now and these tips are really useful. I have a studio too and I work there in the morning or when I have to focus all day. But If I have to write new content o reply to emails I love to do it in the living room with the afternoon sun light

Thanks for reading Aisha! 🙂
Great ideas!
Thank you!
You’ve created a beautiful, inviting space! Love the photo canvas! Having a pleasant environment would make it much easier to work from home. I like your idea of creating a standing desk and will incorporate that into my work area here at home. I also try to take breaks and walk around the block at least once a day. Sorry about your job! Hopefully all the effort you have been putting into your blog will pay off. Best wishes for a bright & prosperous new year!
Thanks a lot for your kind words Kathy!
A really great post and some really great productivity tips as well! I know for me I need to start giving myself set hours to work because at the moment it’s mainly start working from when I get up till I go to sleep which I’m sure if not great for my productivity levels at all! I think I’m going to give the standing desk a try for sure as I’m always sitting when working so my posture is awful! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks so much!
Before anything else, love your blog!!! I like how you’re updating your productivity tips for 2021. The most helpful one for me is definitely getting out of bed at 8 AM. I used to sleep in (before I began blogging) because I had no drive to wake up in early lol and now I regret the amount of time I wasted doing nothing. Thanks for this! Really helpful.
Thanks so much Monique! I love getting out of bed early as well 🙂
These are such great tips for starting off 2021 the right way! Thanks for sharing these ideas. I am ready for a fresh new start for 2021!
Me too! Thanks for reading 🙂
I got a standing desk addition for my birthday last year, and I LOVE having that option. It adjusts easily between standing and sitting, allowing me to work however I feel like working at that time. I generally rotate between sitting and standing throughout the day which optimizes the health impact of it all.
Yes! I agreed. I love rotating from sitting to standing. My workday makes my body feel so much better that way!
Empty nesting joys-sleeping in when I want on weekends, but I miss the hustle and bustle at times. We have so much art work we don’t know what to do with it all, but our walls could use a refresh.
Agreed! Always nice to update home decor 🙂
Photowall does beautiful prints and their high-quality canvases and inks lend lovely, vivid colors to photographs! I love your wedding photo; it radiates forth such happiness. 🙂
Thanks so much Jaya! 🙂
Such an amazing post. I love all of the tips you shared. Productivity is something I definitely need to work on. Nice seeing that you are loving Photowall as much as I do. x

Thank you! It’s the best, isn’t it?
I love having photos everywhere, it’s been crap this year having no recent snaps of days out, family times etc. I did get a lovely new frame for Christmas which I hope to fill with new snaps!

Great tips! It is so important for me to plan my day. Otherwise I find I am not productive at all. I am lost without my to-do lists.
Your photo canvas looks amazing! Such a nice memento of a special day. Love it!
Thanks so much Tiffany! I agree, I love planning my days.
You have included some great tips to improve the productivity which I want to include in my life. Thanks for sharing the post.
Thanks so much for reading!
These are all great suggestions for remaining productive. A stand up desk is something I’d really like so I am working towards that and having my own workspace. Waking up every morning at a reasonable time and getting dressed in clothes that make me feel as though I have things to do has helped me remain productive.
Agreed! These tips have helped me so much! Thank you!
I’m all for waking up early too! During the semester, I wake up at 7am every morning, and I spend the first half an hour reading and replying to comments. It’s a slow but productive start to a workday! All the best for 2021, Lynn! 🙂
Thank you for reading Ming!
You have a positive attitude towards life. All your posts are not only positive but helpful too. I loved the way you started organizing yourself at your pace, schedule, and lifestyle. Your wedding photo is lovely; you both are looking so happy together. Stay happy, and thanks for the great tips:)
Thanks so much Sara! You are the sweetest!
Great post – I really need to get better at organising my week!
Thanks Ali!
Excellent advice! I’ve never even thought about standing breakfast table/island. I like having breakfast on my sofa lately but sometimes I get too cozy which makes me less productive haha.
I totally am the same way! I feel my posture get worst the longer I am on the couch. Thank you for your comment Toma! 🙂
I love these tips! Being productive is the best feeling.
I always wake up the same time on the weekends so I can make the most of my days off.
Emma
Thanks so much Emma!
I’m currently struggling with waking up before 9 am but I don’t know what I’d do without my planner & an open space to work in. Great post!
Thanks so much, Amanda! Yes, planners help so much! 🙂
That is such a beautiful canvas and really works well within the space. You’ve included some really helpful tips too. I’ve recently been trying to get up earlier and it really does help get things done.
Thank you kelly!

Working in an open space definitely creates a sense of order and productivity about your blogging day, Lynn. I am working in a large open space now. We are staying beach side in Panama. A house with no air conditioning has 20 foot – or higher – ceilings, making for good ventilation, cool evenings, cooler mornings and a productive environment of space.
Ryan
That sounds amazing! Thank you for reading 🙂
Awesome tips! I especially appreciate what you said about organizing your week ahead of time and always carrying around a notebook and pen. Last year, I wrote a post all about organizing your time as a busy person, which had some similar ideas about having designated planners and calendars for each section of your life. Helps me a ton!
That’s great! I’ll have to check yours out. Thank you for reading, Harumi xx
Great tips! Spending more time standing, however you can is a great help. And I prefer “writing things down” digitally in some kind of document or notepad, but either way, jotting down your thoughts, ideas, and to-dos as you go is a game-changer!
Thank you so much for reading, Sam x
Great post! I never thought about the open space point, which made me think about how I could implement this myself. Definitely going to figure something out, thanks!
Thank so much for reading! x
Love this! I love working at my kitchen counter – it’s such a great set up and nice to switch it up from my desk. Great suggestions! I’m ready for a productive 2022 🙌🏻
Thank you Colleen! <3
