Ricotta is a hit and a miss for some people. Ricotta is a smooth cheese with a very mild taste but I absolutely love it! I love that you can use this cheese to make both sweet and savoury dishes!
This Pear and Ricotta Crostinis recipe is exactly it! It is the perfect last-minute appetizer to make when you’re hosting a dinner party or even an awesome lunch or snack to have any other day!

These Pear and Ricotta Crostinis are the perfect and easy appetizer to serve at your next party or gathering! You’ve got a crunchy toasted french bread bottom, a savory ricotta mixture, thinly sliced pear, and honey drizzled on top!
HERE IS HOW TO MAKE PEAR AND RICOTTA CROSTINIS:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients to make these delicious Pear and Ricotta Crostinis can really be found at most grocery stores! I used bartlett pears as those are my favourite crunchy, green pears and extra smooth ricotta. I bought a fresh loaf of french bread from the bakery nearby and had the honey and seasonings at home.
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients to make these Pear and Ricotta Crostinis are:
- Thinly Sliced Bartlett Pear
- Fresh French Bread
- Smooth RIcotta
- Crushed Walnut Pieces
- Honey
- Salt
- Pepper
- Olive Oil
WHAT TYPE OF RICOTTA SHOULD I USE?
So, there are a few kinds of ricotta out there so if you have normally bought ricotta, I’d say just use your trusted brand but if you don’t, just pick up a small container of extra smooth ricotta as it’s the most easily spreadable which is perfect for spreading the mixture on each piece of french bread!
WHAT IS THE TIME BREAKDOWN TO MAKE THIS RECIPE?
Oh man, this is one of the easiest dishes I’ve ever made for anyone so believe me when I say you could whip this up in no time and it is a crowd-pleaser. It’s great if you have vegetarian friends too! The time breakdown for these Pear and Ricotta crostinis are:
To Prepare – and combine the ricotta, seasonings and walnuts into a bowl + slice the pears
Time: 10 Minutes
To Assemble – each baguette topped with the ricotta mixture, thin pear slices and honey
Time: 5 Minutes
Total time: 15 Minutes
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
With this dish, you don’t really need any equipment. You’ll need a bowl to mix up the ricotta before spreading then a toaster to toast all the bite-sized pieces of bread. What’s important for this dish is the presentation! Although this appetizer dish is quick, easy and affordable, when you present it on a beautiful tray or wood board, it really makes a huge difference! Trust me when I say your guests will be super impressed!
CAN I SUB/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
I will never ever say no to anyone wanting to substitute or add anything in any of my recipes! If ricotta isn’t your thing, you can definitely use whipped or regular cream cheese! Cream cheese, of course, is salty so I would omit the additional salt that I usually add to the ricotta mixture.
As for the pear, you can absolutely switch that out for whatever fruit you’d like! I would take advantage of the season so if you’re making this recipe in the summer, you can use some fruits like strawberries, cherries or even peaches and basically whatever is in season during the time.
If you don’t like honey, you can definitely use agave nectar or maple syrup or you can use some sugar crystals too! Whatever you prefer and love as a sweetener will do!
As for the french bread, I love french bread but you can choose whatever base you like. You can use chips, bagel bites, tortilla pieces, etc!
WHAT DOES PEAR AND RICOTTA CROSTINIS TASTE LIKE?
I absolutely am obsessed with pear and ricotta crostinis! These crostinis are both light and decadent which is the opposite of each other but for some reason, it works. In my opinion, I think cheese is heavy in anything no matter what the dish is and ricotta is no different.
These pear and ricotta crostinis are awesome for when you have friends over for a wine night or even as a quick snack in between meals or have it for lunch with a soup or salad on the side!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
These crostinis will only keep for a food half an hour or so. Of course, if you toast bread, it will get super hard as it gets old! I recommend making it just before your guests arrive or even when your guest arrives so you can serve it fresh. You’ll need to put the honey drizzle right before serving too as it melts quickly.
If it’s just a recipe you’re making yourself, then eat it as soon as you make it or as you’re making it! It’s super delicious when the bread is fresh and toasty!
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS DISH?
No specific inspiration for this dish but I love baguette bites and was thinking about a really yummy NYE appetizer idea and came across creating these little bites! I love how easily interchangeable baguettes are and how you can essentially put any toppings you’d like!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
No other notes for this. I enjoy the simplicity of this recipe but how packed with flavour they are! You can customize it as much as your heart desires to your liking!
