There’s something about a DIY project that makes you feel so proud! For me, it’s not about the decor or project being perfect but it’s that feeling that knowing that I made it with my two hands!
Anyone can just buy anything they want in stores but it takes a different kind of person to be able to take the time to buy the materials and take the time to put it together and I am that person!
I’ve DIY’d a lot of home decor, gifts and projects in my household as well as bought. Crafting for me is therapeutic so I like to take my time and enjoy creating things.
Do you like DIY projects or just purchasing the product as a whole?
PIN Minimalist Boho Tassel Decor FOR LATER:
I love boho decor because of how light and airy it is. A lot of the decor associated with this style uses a lot of natural products like jute, yarn, rattan, and wood which I love and is great for crafts and DIY projects!
I have a feeling my taste will evolve over time but for now, I’m all about bright whites and beiges.
What’s your decor style? DO you find that you are able to create a lot of DIY craft projects based on your style?
HERE IS HOW TO MAKE A MINIMALIST BOHO TASSEL DECOR:
WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THIS MINIMALIST BOHO TASSEL DECOR?
For this minimalist boho tassel decor, you need very little materials and everything is fairly cheap!
You’ll need any colour you want yarn and wooden dowels and that’s about it!
- A Small Bundle Of Yarn
- Sharp Scissors
- Ruler
- Wooden Dowel
- 10cmx6.5cm Cardboard Piece
- Hot Glue Gun + Glue Sticks
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE MATERIALS?
You can find the materials for this minimalist boho tassel decor anywhere. Chances are you’ll be able to find what you need at the dollar store and if not, any craft stores like Michaels or Hobby Lobby or Jo-Ann. If you love shopping online, Amazon is your best friend!
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
For this minimalist boho tassel decor, you’ll need a ruler, small cardboard pieces and a hot glue gun!
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO CREATE?
The steps needed are:
- Prepare and Measure – You’ll need to prepare the materials for this minimalist boho tassel decor overall:
- Hanging Materials
- 1 Wooden Dowel
- 1 60 cm Yarn Piece
- Tassel Materials (Each Tassel)
- 1 30 cm Yarn Piece
- 1 20 cm Yarn Piece
- Bundle of Yarn to Wrap about 10cm Cardboard about 15-18 times
- Equipment
- 30 cm Ruler
- Hot Glue Gun heated
- 10cmx6.5cm cardboard
- Scissors
- Hanging Materials
- Create – Next, you’ll need to create each and every tassel that you want to include in this hanging + glue the 60cm yarn piece to the wooden dowel to hang.
- Glue – Each tassel will need to be spaced apart and glued onto the wooden dowel.
- Hang – Once you’ve completed this DIY project, you can hang it on the wall as your decor!
CAN I SUB ANYTHING OUT?
You sure can sub things out for this minimalist boho tassel decor project! if a wooden dowel is not available to you, you can use any stick really. If you’ve ever seen a macrame project, you’ve probably seen some pieces where they use driftwood. You could also use wrapped wire often seen in the floral section! Anything that’s basically stable to hold the weight of yarn tassels.
I used white, beige and brown yarn for this project but you can use any colour you’d like! You can also paint the colour of the dowel too if you’d like. If you stick with white, it’ll look similar to a macrame boho hanging!
If you don’t have a hot glue gun, you can use super glue or industrial strength glue. Just make sure to be extra careful and do this project in a well-ventilated area!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
This beautiful minimalist boho tassel decor piece will last you forever as long as you leave it alone! It is yarn and if you keep playing with it, it may unravel so make sure to just leave it as it is or try to hold the hanging by the top string instead of the tassels.
If you’re going to be storing it in storage for the holidays or just need a decor refresh, I recommend wrapping it in craft paper or a ziplock bag and labelling it so it doesn’t get destroyed!
Luckily for this project, since it’s super easy, you can easily make a bunch and even sell them as a side hustle.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE?
This minimalist boho tassel decor piece did take me a good hour or so to make. I did it while watching TV so it might be a lot easier to do if I was fully focused on it but I was doing this for fun and to test out for the blog!
The part that took the longest was making each individual tassel for sure. Other than that, everything was super easy and it was just gluing everything to the wooden dowel. Since we’re using hot glue as well, it stuck super well so required very little drying time and I was able to hang it immediately.
MORE DECOR INSPIRATION?
Yes! I love using yarn for home decor projects! I find it super cozy and relaxing to look at. Some other home decor that I adore that uses yarn are:
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS DECOR?
I got this inspiration to make this minimalist boho tassel decor from my own macrame hangings that I bought from Amazon. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it many times over but I totally wish that I bought my macrame hanging from a small/local business or made it myself instead of purchasing it on Amazon.
When we moved to our new home in 2020, I was so excited to start filling our place with decor that I got so excited and purchased a handful of things from Amazon within the first week we moved! Although I do love my 2 macrame hangings, if I had a redo, I would totally wait and buy it handmade!
WHERE CAN I PUT THIS MINIMALIST BOHO TASSEL DECOR?
This decor is specifically made as wall hangings. If you can stick a small nail in the wall, do it! If you’re renting like I am, you can totally just use adhesive hooks. I’ve used these time and time again as I haven’t owned my home yet so these have been a lifesaver for me to still have super cute decor!
Here are some of my favourites that I have all over my home:
ANY OTHER NOTES?
When you’re doing this craft, it’s good to be gentle so you don’t pull any yarn pieces and make things look lopsided. The hot glue is fairly easy to use but again, it is hot glue so just be careful you don’t burn yourself! You can alternatively use super glue or industrial strength glue but you’ll need to be EXTRA EXTRA CAREFUL when handling and make sure that you are in a well-ventilated area so you don’t inhale the chemicals in these too much.
STEPS TO DO THIS DIY TRENDY MINIMALIST BOHO TASSEL DECOR:
Step 1: Prepare all materials so everything is readily available.
Step 2: Take a 60 cm yarn piece and hot glue one end of the yarn to one end of the dowel. Repeat on the other side and set aside while you work on the tassels.
Step 3: Cut two pieces of yarn. One piece is 30cm long and the other is 20 cm long.
Step 4: Grab your 30cm piece and line it along the top of the 6.5cm side cardboard.
Step 5: Grab your yarn and wrap it around the cardboard about 15-18 times depending on how thick you want each tassel.
Step 6: Once you’ve wrapped it around the number of times you want. Tie 30cm yarn really tightly, double knotted and slide the wrapped yarn off the cardboard.
Step 7: Cut the wrapped yarn at the bottom of each yarn is flowing down freely.
Step 8: Take the 20 cm yarn and tie the yarn bundle about an inch down from the top.
Step 9: Repeat steps till you’ve got the number of tassels you want to put on your dowel.
Step 10: Arrange the tassels to how you want them to style them. Here are a few options but I kept mine simple.
Step 11: Hot glue each tassel and space them apart to the back of the dowel. Make sure that they are spaced evenly and have a good amount of room to hang.
Step 12: Once everything is done, you are free to hang it up ASAP!

Lynn

Vey cute decor item! I definitely couldn’t make this myself because I’m useless at making things plus I don’t have a glue gun. But I love this style of decor and I reckon you could support some small businesses who make this style of decor very easily on Etsy and things! x
Totally! Thank you for commenting, Jenny xx
This looks so easy! And the results are pretty stylish too, it’d be so easy to make it to match your own decor.
I love making things like tassels and pompoms, there’s something soothing about the repetitiveness.
