It’s that time of month! Today we’re making Kronk’s Spinach Puffs from The Emperor’s New Groove!
I remember watching this movie after school sometimes with my friends and laughing so hard that tears would continuously fall down our cheeks! For some reason, in my memory, I strongly believed it was a series! It feels like the Mandela Effect where I feel like my friends and I watched this after school every day so it shocked me when I was researching and it is in fact a movie!
While researching for this recipe, I HAD to do my due diligence and watch it so I laughed while watching all over again. I’ve re-watched lots of Disney movies the past year or so and it’s been so nice having something comfortable to watch especially with how anxious listening to the news and everything go on daily in the world is!
I searched up other people who’ve done this recipe and I found a ton of different ways but I do mine super simple and delicious as always. I love creating easy dishes that anyone can do!
Did you watch The Emperor’s New Groove? Who was your favourite character? Kronk? Ysma? Pacha?
The thing I had the most difficulty with when creating these is making them stand up. In the movie, he has them on a tray and I recreated this recipe a few times but could not get the puffs to stand up on a serving tray! They are super flaky so they fell apart a lot in my hands and I just ended up making a big mess on the countertops haha.
I used the bare minimum ingredients and even used pre-made butter puff pastry for this recipe so it’s easy to follow for everyone. I gave some away to friends and family and they enjoyed it too! This is perfect to bring to a potluck, picnic or BBQ too.
The feta in this recipe makes it a bit salty so if you’re watching your salt intake, this isn’t the best recipe but again, you can always edit it to your liking! If you’ve ever had a Greek Spanokopita, this is similar!
Have you ever had a spinach puff before? Do you like it? Let me know below!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE KRONK’S SPINACH PUFFS:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
All of the ingredients for Kronk’s Spinach Puffs are pretty common and can be found at your local grocery store. The butter puff pastry is usually located in the freezer section. Just make sure to thaw out the dough at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to an hour. Cream cheese and feta can be found in the dairy section and spinach and garlic in produce!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients used in Kronk’s Spinach Puffs are:
- Butter Puff Pastry
- Spinach cooked
- Feta
- Cream Cheese
- Garlic
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Pepper
- Butter or Eggwash to brush
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
You don’t need much for these Spinach Puffs aside from an oven. Just a bowl to mix everything together as well as a parchment-lined baking sheet. A spoon is needed to scoop some of the mixture onto the pastry and a brush as well to add the butter on top.
CAN I SUB ANYTHING OUT?
You sure can! I’d keep the puff pastry as the flaky pastry is the best but you can sub the feta for shredded mozzarella or white cheddar so it’s not as salty. In the Greek Spanokopita, there are onions in it so if you’d like to have that in, you can.
If you want to make this vegan, use vegan cream cheese and vegan mozzarella. You can also omit the cream cheese in total and just have it less creamy.
Although it will no longer be a Spinach Puff any longer, you can also try and put the mixture on top of a baguette or into biscuits and I think it would be equally as delicious!
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
Kronk’s Spinach Puffs tastes amazing! I have to store it quickly or I’ll end up eating the whole tray! It’s super creamy and every bite is packed with spinach. The pastry is really flaky and light. It’s perfect as a snack or appetizer and compliments a hot tea perfectly.
I also love having a glass of white wine with this as well if I have this in the evening on a nice day!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
Kronk’s Spinach Puffs has quite a few notes:
- Store in the fridge for up to 5 days (if you make it that long)
- Ensure that both the puff pastry is thawed and cream cheese is softened
- Chop spinach finely and cook down
- Fresh garlic works best for this recipe if you have it, it’s worth it!
Kronk’s Spinach Puffs
Ingredients
- 1 Pkg Butter Puff Pastry
- 5 Oz Chopped Spinach 5oz before cooking
- 125 G Cream Cheese
- 1/2 Cup Feta Cheese shredded or crumbled
- 3-5 Garlic Cloves minced
- 1 Tsp Onion Powder
- 1/2 Tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 Tsp Ground Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Melted Butter to brush
Instructions
- Preheat Oven to 400F and prepare a parchment lined baking sheet.
- In a medium sized bowl, combine the chopped spinach, cream cheese cheese, feta cheese, minced garlic cloves, all the seasonings and set aside.
- On a clean surface, lay your puff pastry and cut it into squares. The squares should be big enough for you to fold over into a triangle.
- Add in your creamy spinach mixture to one side of the triangle and fold over. Repeat for the rest of the puff pastry.
- Lay all the spinach puffs spaced about 1 inch part and brush each of the tops with butter.
- Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve and enjoy!
I’ve made this so often within the past month and I’m still not sick of it! I love spinach and eat it a lot.
I will continue to make these for years to come and am so happy to experience what I think Kronk’s Spinach Puffs would taste like. I highly suggest watching the movie again as it’s available on Disney+ with great quality.
Can’t wait for the coming month’s Food from TV and Movies segment! It’s always fun to bring your imagination and vision to life.
Let me know if you would make Kronk’s Spinach Puffs too!
