Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing… Doesn’t that sound so cozy and decadent?!
This Fall Harvest Salad is super robust in flavours but has everything in every bite. You’ve got sweet from the apples, pears, dried cranberries and roasted sweet potatoes. You’ve got salty from the feta. You’ve got crunchy from the walnuts. And finally, you’ve got soft from the kale, field greens and spinach doused with maple dressing.
This salad will definitely have you wanting more and your guests asking for the exact recipe! This salad is perfect as the starter plate before your decadent Thanksgiving dinner.
Do you like fall flavours? Have you ever had maple dressing? I’d love to know!
PIN Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing FOR LATER:
This salad is pretty easy to prepare and you can easily make a huge batch or smaller plates!
I roasted my sweet potatoes in the air fryer for about 15 minutes on 400F with olive oil, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and pepper. I have to say, my house smelled incredible! It almost reminded me of Christmas.
I bought my apples and pears locally and they were so crunchy and fresh! I cut mine into thin slices but you can definitely cut diced it or cut it into small cubes. The cut on this is up to you! It will be easier for guests to eat if it’s all chopped.
Salad is most definitely more popular in the summer and soup is usually more popular in the Fall/Winter. You can definitely pair this salad with a side soup so you can enjoy soup season too!
What do you put into your Fall salads?! I’m always looking for new ways!
HERE IS HOW TO MAKE FALL HARVEST SALAD WITH MAPLE DRESSING:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients for this Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing are all available at your local grocery store. If you have a farmer’s market nearby, you could also pick up the products from there!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients for this Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing are:
Fall Harvest Salad
- Field Greens
- Spinach
- Kale
- Apples
- Pears
- Sweet Potatoes
- Walnuts
- Feta
Maple Dressing
- Maple Syrup
- Mustard
- Olive Oil
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Salt
- Pepper
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
WHAT TYPE OF MAPLE SYRUP SHOULD I USE?
I really wanted to answer this question so much! I didn’t know how much I could love maple syrup until I bought premium quality maple syrup. I used to buy the cheapest maple syrup out there and honestly the cheapest ingredients in general until I started trying premium products and maple syrup being one that I can’t live without now!
I buy high-quality Canadian maple syrup but I totally understand how that might not be available for you. If you can find it, great! If you can’t, don’t worry about it. Any maple syrup works.
WHAT IS THE TIME BREAKDOWN TO MAKE THIS RECIPE?
This Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing is super easy and simple to make. The time breakdown for this recipe is:
To Prepare – this includes washing and slicing the fruits/veggies and measuring the other ingredients
Time: 15 Minutes
To Mix – this includes mixing all the ingredients together and serving it on a plate
Time: 5 Minutes
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
The equipment used to make this Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing is very minimal. You’ll need sets of measuring cups and spoons to measure out your ingredients. You’ll also need a small bowl and whisk to make the dressing and a big salad bowl and some big spoons to toss.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO PREPARE?
The steps to make this Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing are:
- Wash & Drain – All your fruits and vegetables
- Chop & Slice – All your fruits and vegetables
- Measure – All the other ingredients
- Whisk – Together the dressing
- Mix & Combine – The Salad and dressing together
- Plate and Serve – and enjoy!
CAN I SUB/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
You sure can substitute what you’d like from this salad. Like I mentioned earlier, this salad has very robust flavours! You can use any combo of seeds/nuts you’d like. I just used walnuts and pumpkin seeds.
You can also swap the feta cheese for goat cheese, shredded cheese or even blue cheese if you’d like!
I would keep the apple and pear in this recipe but if you want to swap it out for another Fall Harvest fruit, you can. In Canada, at least, not a lot of fruit is in season during November/December but if you make this salad in September/October, you can use some blueberries, plums, crab apples, and nectarines.
The greens used in this are pretty standard in most salads so I would keep it but if you wanted to add brussel sprouts, broccoli, swiss chard or lettuce. That would be fab too!
If sweet potatoes aren’t for you, you can use roasted squash or pumpkin!
Last but not least, for the dressing, it calls for maple syrup which you can swap out for honey. You can use any vinegar you’d like instead of balsamic vinegar and any oil you’d like. I personally use olive oil for EVERYTHING but you can see grapeseed or avocado oil instead!
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
This Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing has very strong flavours and is sweet and tangy. The nutmeg, cinnamon, and maple syrup make the dressing very sweet. The apples, pears, dried cranberries and sweet potatoes make the salad sweet. The mustard, feta and balsamic vinegar give a good tangy/salty bite. The kale, spinach and field greens are a very earthy salad mix combo. The walnuts give the best crunch.
Altogether, this salad gives you a taste of everything!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
Honestly, this salad is fall to be eaten right away especially if mixed. Alternatively, this Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing lasts for about 4 days as long as you DO NOT mix and leave the dressing in a separate container! I’ve packed this for friends and family and it holds up well. If you want the pears and apples to not get brown, you’ll need to dip them in a lemon/water mix. I learned this trick working in fast food!
Dressing NEEDS to be in a separate container as if it is mixed, it makes the salad soft really fast.
WHAT GOES WITH THIS FALL HARVEST SALAD WITH MAPLE DRESSING?
This Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing is perfect to meal prep during Fall or even serve to guests as a side plate! This salad goes with:
- A side of soup – Any warm soup will do, I highly recommend my Fall Vegetarian Tortellini Soup!
- Any roasted proteins for dinner – A roasted turkey, ribs, steak, tofu or any protein goes well with this on the side!
- By itself – If you’re looking for a crunch with your cold ice cream, these are perfect
- Fresh bread – Try smashing these instead of granola! Greek yogurt and chickpeas are both excellent sources of protain

INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS DISH?
If you know the blog, you know that we are all about Fall! I generally eat a salad every day but I understand that eating salads in the winter isn’t as favourable as something warm and decadent. Eating Fall flavours really does make a difference and makes me want to have a salad for lunch in the cooler months!
I usually host Thanksgiving every year and use all these ingredients so I thought why not make it into a fresh and delicious salad! I enjoy every one of these ingredients and love that they work so well together.
HOW CAN I MEAL PREP THIS RECIPE?
Like I mentioned above, this Fall Harvest Salad with Maple Dressing is best when consumed immediately after pouring the dressing into the salad but if you want to meal prep this, you’ll just need to separate the greens into different containers and do smaller portions of the toppings AND the dressing separately.
As soon as the dressing goes into the salad, it gets soft so make sure to wait until you serve/eat to make this!

Hi Lynn- Thanks for this wonderful recipe! I’m always looking for something new to make for Thanksgiving, and I never thought about a salad to contribute to the meal. The only time I think apples with walnuts is a Waldorf salad but the pears, maple syrup adds a nice twist. I don’t care too much for sweet potatoes so I would maybe omit it.
This is a keeper!
