Have you ever had ube before?
Ube is a sweet purple yam and it’s delicious! I love ube so much and it’s awesome seeing it in more baked goods!
It used to be quite rare to find ube breads, buns, rolls and desserts but now, you’re able to find ube in a lot of bakeries and shops.
Have you ever had an ube dessert before? I’d love to know what you’ve had!
PIN Easy Ube Crinkle Cookies FOR LATER:
These cookies are definitely the best for people who have a decent sweet tooth! As this recipe involves a cake box mix, we are unable to control the sugar and cake box mixes tend to be super sweet.
I don’t have that strong of a sweet tooth and mostly prefer savoury but I can make an exception for ube crinkle cookies! If you don’t have a sweet tooth, you can definitely make a shortbread or maybe a basic sugar cookie (with less sugar) recipe from scratch and just add in the ube jam and extract.
Have you ever made cake box cookies?! If you haven’t, you need to! If you have, aren’t they the best and easiest!?
This Super Easy Ube Crinkle Cookies recipe is accompanied by a YouTube Tutorial. If you haven’t subscribed to my channel on YouTube, don’t forget to!
HERE IS HOW TO MAKE EASY UBE CRINKLE COOKIES:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
Ube jam and extract can be found in Asian groceries stores and sometimes just the regular local shops. The rest of the ingredients can be found in regular grocery stores or even in your kitchen. The best thing about this is that you have the freedom to use any oil that you prefer so it can be whatever you have in your home already as well as eggs which you may already have!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients for Ube Crinkle Cookies are:
- White Cake Mix
- Eggs
- Oil
- Ube Jam
- Ube Extract
- Icing Sugar
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
I adore how easy this recipe is so it requires little to no equipment. You’ll need a spatula, mixing bowl or if you have a stand mixer, that works too. You’ll need a bowl to dunk the cookie dough balls into icing sugar and last but not least, you’ll need a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO PREPARE?
The steps to make ube crinkle cookies goes as follows:
- Mix
- Chill
- Roll
- Dunk
- Bake
- Enjoy!
CAN I SUB ANYTHING OUT?
What I love about cake mix cookies is how amazingly versatile it is! If you type into Google or Pinterest, you’ll find many many different variations of this recipe!
I wouldn’t change this recipe as it’s super simple and a recipe that makes ube the star!
I always use olive oil for everything so you can switch this out for avocado oil or grapeseed oil or regular vegetable/canola oil.
I’m not that familiar with using vegan liquid egg so I’m not entirely sure if that could work. If you’ve baked treats using vegan liquid egg, you may know the outcome better than I do!
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
This ube crinkle cookies recipe has the most subtle ube taste so if you’re looking for something stronger, you can simply just add in more ube extract or jam. People have said that it has a very mellow, vanilla/nutty flavour and can sometimes be compared to coconut. I for one, can’t really explain the taste of ube. I just know I love it and can’t live without it!
Although very different, it reminds ME of taro.
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
These cookies are awesome and keep for a while. They are extremely soft and do well in the fridge. I put them in an airtight container or on a bowl or plate with cling wrap. I usually give my recipes away so I pack them for others and sometimes keep cookies in the freezer and it still has very great texture after defrosting!
WHAT GOES WITH THESE UBE CRINKLE COOKIES?
Other items that go well with ube crinkle cookies include:
- Tea
- Coffee
- Milk
- Vanilla Ice Cream
WHAT ARE OTHER VARIATIONS OF EASY UBE CRINKLE COOKIES?
There are so many different variations of this recipe! Literally type into Pinterest, Cake Box Cookies and you’ll get endless ways to enjoy a cookie without all the work!
My other favourite way of making a cake box cookie is a chocolate candy cane one!

Ube is a fantastic flavour and is perfect to incorporate in buns and rolls. If you ever get a chance to go to an Asian market and see ube sweet rolls or bread, you need to get it! It’s a favourite in my family and we have it often when we have get-togethers or picnics!
Once you try ube, you’ll never pass up a chance to get an ube flavoured treat from the bakery.
Hope you enjoy this ube crinkle cookies recipe! Let me know below what kind of ube treat you’d try!

Wow, they look amazing! The texture looks absolutely divine. I need to try and make a (heavily adapted) version of these to fit my dietary requirements. Getting the texture right without gluten might be a battle but they look like they’d be worth it x

I didn’t know ube at all, but now I’m curious about it because I’d love to find out what it tastes like. I know taro, so this gives me a little idea of what to expect. I’ll have to make a gluten free version of these cookies for myself. They look really appetizing!

In my country (Indonesia) we called this ‘ubi.’ We love to eat ube every day. It’s so easy to find and eat them here, they also very cheap. Have you tried the orange one? We just boil it and eat it right away. Recently, my mom keep buying ube because my dogs also love to eat them lol. This would be a nice recipe to try 😀 Thanks for sharing Lynn x
Yes! My mom often just boils them and has them for breakfast! Thank you for reading my dear xx
