WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
You’ll need general baking equipment to make this recipe! A baking tray and parchment paper, some spatula, or a mixer if you want to get fancy and I personally LOVE cookie scoopers as they make every cookie evenly sized. Aside from the general baking things, you’ll want your favorite Halloween sprinkles! You can get them off Amazon, Etsy, Michaels, or the Dollar Store!
CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
You sure can! I use these ingredients to make all sorts of cake mix cookies! If you don’t have access to vanilla or want to try a different flavor like chocolate or any other cake mix flavor available, go for it! Choose a flavor that you love!
I always use olive oil in my recipes but you can use butter, canola, vegetable, or grapeseed oil too! Note that depending on the oil, flavor *may* slightly be different but not a huge difference.
You can choose any Halloween sprinkles that you’d like! For this recipe, I chose a really simple mix of purple, orange, and black but there are tons of cute ones out there to choose from!

WHAT DO HALLOWEEN CAKE MIX COOKIES TASTE LIKE?
Halloween Cake Mix Cookies offer a delightful and customizable taste experience that can vary based on the cake mix flavor and mix-ins you choose. Here’s what you can expect:
- Cake Mix Flavor: The primary flavor of these cookies depends on the cake mix you select. Cake mixes come in various flavors, including vanilla, chocolate, lemon, red velvet, and more. Each flavor will impart its unique taste to the cookies.
- Sweetness: Regardless of the cake mix flavor, Halloween Cake Mix Cookies tend to be on the sweeter side due to the sugar content in the cake mix itself. This sweetness is balanced by the mix-ins and decorations you add.
- Mix-Ins: You have the creative freedom to add mix-ins like chocolate chips, M&M’s, nuts, or Halloween-themed sprinkles. These mix-ins introduce additional flavors and textures, enhancing the overall taste of the cookies.
- Decorations: The decorations you use, such as colorful frosting or icing, can contribute to both the visual appeal and taste. For example, a drizzle of cream cheese frosting on a red velvet cake mix cookie can add a tangy and creamy element to the flavor.
- Customization: The beauty of Halloween Cake Mix Cookies is that you can customize them to suit your taste preferences. Experiment with different cake mix flavors and mix-ins to create unique taste combinations.
Halloween Cake Mix Cookies are a versatile treat that offers a wide range of flavors and textures. They can be as simple or as creatively complex as you desire, making them perfect for adding a sweet and festive touch to your Halloween celebrations.
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
Halloween Cake Mix Cookies are typically best when consumed within 3 to 5 days after baking for the freshest taste and texture. However, their shelf life can vary based on factors like storage conditions and ingredients used.
Here are some guidelines for extending the shelf life of your Halloween Cake Mix Cookies:
- Room Temperature: Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature in a cool, dry place. They will remain fresh for about 3 to 5 days. After this period, the cookies may become stale and lose their moisture.
- Refrigeration: To prolong freshness, you can refrigerate the cookies in an airtight container. This can extend their shelf life to about 1 to 2 weeks. Keep in mind that refrigeration can change the texture slightly, making the cookies firmer.
- Freezing: If you need to store them for an extended period, consider freezing the cookies. Place them in an airtight container or a freezer-safe bag, separating layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Frozen Halloween Cake Mix Cookies can last for up to 2 to 3 months. Thaw them at room temperature before serving.
Always check for any changes in texture or flavor before serving if you’ve stored the cookies for an extended period. Properly stored, these cookies can be enjoyed well beyond Halloween, allowing you to savor the sweetness of the season.
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?
No specific inspirations from this! I love trying to find super simple recipes for holidays for those of us who have very little time to spare in a day but also want to get into the Halloween vibes! These cookies are super affordable and simple to make, eat, and share.
They give off the vibe of a lot of effort except they really aren’t which we love here!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
Beware that the sprinkles might melt a little bit depending on what you use however, I like them this way because they become crunchy sugar pieces which is delicious! If you don’t want them to melt, you can lower the temperature of the oven.
