HERE IS HOW TO MAKE A DIY STRAWBERRY COSTUME:
WHERE CAN YOU FIND THE MATERIALS TO MAKE THIS DIY STRAWBERRY COSTUME?
The materials to make this DIY Strawberry Costume can be found at your local dollar store. I really love this costume because it is so fun and cute to make! You’ll need white felt sheets, fabric tape, and scissors to make your little strawberry seeds. You can use any red oversized top or dress that you already own! The beauty about fabric tape is that it does not damage fabric and is easy to remove!
Aside from this, you’ll want to either find a giant green bow that’s already made or you can easily buy some green ribbon and create your own to resemble a strawberry top or stem! You can really use any shoes but I highly recommend either something in black or white!
WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THIS DIY STRAWBERRY COSTUME?
To create your DIY strawberry costume, you’ll need some essential supplies. The main components are a red dress or oversized red T-shirt, green felt fabric or green premade bow and white felt sheets to make seeds. These items form the base of your strawberry costume, giving it the distinctive color and texture of the fruit. Most of these materials can be easily found at your local craft store or online.
Additionally, you might want to gather some basic craft supplies like fabric tape and scissors for assembling the full costume. If you preferto use hot glue, you can however, you will not be able to remove the seeds off the dress!

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
This DIY Strawberry Costume is the perfect for anyone! I love that this DIY is super easy especially for people who are new to crafting or who don’t craft regularly! You should hopefully have scissors but other than that, fabric tape is all you’ll need which you can find online like from Amazon which is where I buy it or you should be able to find it at the dollar store or craft shop like Michaels or Jo-Ann’s.
CAN I SUBSTITUTE ANY MATERIALS OUT?
The DIY Strawberry costume is so easy that there isn’t much to substitute however, if you want to use a white fabric paint pen to draw on the strawberry seeds instead of fabric tape then that would be totally fine! You can also use vinyl stickers if you have a Cricut or similar craft machine!
I like using fabric tape because I can always remove the pieces and reuse my dress for other occasions! If you don’t want to reuse your strawberry dress then you can definitely do what you want to the dress to suit your needs!
I bought a giant green bow headband as I found it was the easiest and cutest but you can also just make your own green bow and hot glue the bow to a headband or clip!
For the shoes, I used black heels but you can also just use whatever shoes you have like white tennis sneakers or black/white flats!
DOES THE COSTUME LAST TO USE FOR THE FOLLOWING YEARS?
Yes! I find that fabric tape holds up so well so I have no doubts that this costume will hold up in storage or in your closet and you’ll be able to use it multiple times without any issues.
Luckily, fabric sheets and tape from the dollar store is quite cheap so you should be able to purchase it at any point in time and easily recreate this again!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PUT TOGETHER?
This costume took a little bit longer to put together because the little white seeds are so little! I just sat on the couch and cut out little white seeds while watching TV and it was great! Total time to put this together would be about 30 mins to 1 hour depending on how long it takes you to cut!
You basically have to cut every single little white seed out then use fabric tape to tape every little seed to the dress so that can be time consuming but luckily this costume doesn’t have too many moving parts so it’s the only thing you really need to put together!
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS COSTUME?
I knew I wanted to try putting together a fruit costume this year but I just didn’t know what fruit I wanted to do! When I was in college, I worked in mall as part of the guest services team so they would often help out with events which was so fun!
One year, my manager dressed up the whole team as different fruits and had oversized shirts with some fabric pieces glued to it to resemble what fruit we’d be! I can’t remember it that well and sadly don’t have any photos but I believe I was a kiwi and it was so cute! She did an excellent job with the DIY and I pulled that memory from my mind and wanted to do a strawberry costume on myself!
I searched up some Strawberry costume inspo on Pinterest and bought my vision to life and it worked out so well! I adore that this costume is also subtle! It’s perfect to wear all day on Halloween or to work!
STEPS TO PUT TOGETHER THIS DIY STRAWBERRY COSTUME:
Step 1: Cut small 1″ white seed pieces from your fabric/felt sheets. They would be rain drop shaped! Cut as many as you can! I cut about 50 pieces but it didn’t cover the entire dress. Totally up to you on how much seeds you’d like to add onto your dress.
Step 2: Next, use fabric tape to tape each of the seeds all around your dress. You can place some in the back as well but I just placed my seeds in the front! No pattern is required to resemble real strawberries!
Step 3: Once your dress is put together, put on your green bow headband/hair clip and your shoes and enjoy your costume!
