HERE IS HOW TO MAKE A PUMPKIN JACK-O-LANTERN COSTUME:
WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THIS DIY JACK-O-LANTERN COSTUME?
All you’ll need to put this pumpkin jack-o-lantern costume together is:
- Orange Top/Dress
- Black Bottoms (If wearing a top instead of a dress)
- Fabric Tape
- Black Felt Sheets
- Black Shoes
- Green Knotted/Bow Headband (or green felt sheets so you can make a stem and attach it to a clip/headband)
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
For this DIY, it is so amazing to only really need scissors! This Scotch brand fabric tape is my fav to use because it’s super easy to work with and you can remove it easily too! Since you’re cutting felt sheets, I suggest a really good pair of sharp scissors or even specific fabric scissors, however, I’m always a big fan of using what you already own!
CAN I SUB ANYTHING OUT?
I suggested a few outfit ideas for this costume above but you’re welcome to follow whatever Jack-O-Lantern face you’d like. Again, I am always a fan of using what you already have at home! So, if you have an old T-shirt you don’t care for, you can use that instead of felt sheets.
Instead of a green headband, you could use green slips or hair wraps. Shoes, orange tops, and black bottoms can be whatever you can easily find in your closet or in stores.
DOES THE COSTUME LAST TO USE FOR THE FOLLOWING YEARS?
Yes, definitely! This costume is super low maintenance and if you use good fabric tape, you should be good to go for years to come! You can also just keep the Jack-O-Lantern face cut-outs in a separate place so you can always swap out what orange and black outfit you want to use.
It would also be fine if you permanently want to stick the Jack-O-Lantern face onto the orange top/dress and use some fabric glue or even sew it on there! If the pieces get ruined, it is such an easy process to quickly do again.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE?
Probably my fastest DIY costume so far by a landslide! This costume took me a maximum of 15 minutes to make! I just Googled Jack-O-Lantern faces and followed a face that I really loved.
I used fabric tape to stick it on and bam! DONE!
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS COSTUME?
I was thinking of costumes to really easily make for little to no money and little to no effort and this was one I thought would be very cute! I scrolled through Pinterest trying to gain inspiration on what costumes I wanted to make this year and saw a few variations of this and knew that I could easily make this come to life with what I had at home!
I think it turned out so cute and so perfect and appropriate for any setting. Teachers/students can wear this to school, employees could wear this to the office, people can dress it up and wear it to a Halloween costume party, OR parents can wear something cute while taking the kiddos trick or treating!
STEPS TO DO THIS DIY PUMPKIN COSTUME:
Step 1: Choose a Jack-O-Lantern face off Google that you like and cut your black felt sheets.
Step 2: Add fabric tape onto each piece and stick them onto your orange top or dress wherever you’d like to place them. Generally, the stomach area is a good place!
Step 3: Put on your outfit, green headband, and cute shoes, and have a great night!

Lynn
