HERE IS HOW TO MAKE CRUNCHY AIR FRYER FURIKAKE CHICKPEAS:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
All you’ll really need is 3 ingredients! Yes, 3! You’ll need chickpeas, furikake and some neutral oil! I used to use olive oil but lately, I’ve been using avocado oil and love it! Furikake can be found at your local Asian grocery store but I’ve seen it lately in bigger grocery chains like Walmart! I usually use dried chickpeas and rehydrate them but you can also used canned. I just find dried chickpeas so cheap!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
Here are the 3 ingredients that you’ll need to make these delicious furikake chickpeas!
- Chickpeas
- Furikake Seasoning
- Avocado Oil
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
This recipe is super quick to whip up whenever you’re wanting a delicious crunchy high protein or fiber snack! If you’re keeping track of your calories or macros, you’ll need some measuring cups and spoons but other than that, you’ll just need some spoons, bowls and of course an air fryer!
You can absolutely use an oven or a toaster/convection oven but it does take a way longer time to crisp up! I’ve done my chickpeas in the oven and it can sometimes take 45 minutes to an hour to get them to be the crisp of my preference

CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
This recipe is so easy! I honestly don’t have much ideas to spruce up this recipe but if you do want to change it up, here are some ideas!
- Adding some chilli powder or hot suace
- Adding some dried herbs
- Using a mixture of beans and peas
WHAT DOES CRUNCHY AIR FRYER FURIKAKE CHICKPEAS TASTE LIKE?
Chickpeas are a part of the legumes family and is awesome for added fiber and protein to your diet! They are similar to beans but a little bit harder so they keep their texture good! Chickpeas have a mild, nutty, and slightly earthy flavor with a creamy, buttery texture when cooked. On their own, they’re pretty neutral, which makes them super versatile—they soak up spices and seasonings really well. Roasted or air-fried (like in your furikake version), they get crunchy on the outside with a toasty, almost popcorn-like vibe.
Furikake seasoning has a savory, umami-rich flavour with a little sweet and salty balance! It has dried seaweed, sesame seeds, salt, sugar and depending on the variation, can have dried fish or wasabi! Combined together, this snack makes the perfect balance of lots of tastes and textures like sweet, salty and crunchy!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
These keep for up to a week. I find that they don’t keep their crunch after this. I store it in an airtight container if I make a bigger batch but this recipe is for one serving! They chickpeas are easy enough to make as well so you don’t need to worry about meal prepping these too much. You can make them when you want to eat them so they are fresh!
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?
I often make popcorn with furikake on it and it occured to me just how good crunchy furikake chickpeas would be and I decided to make them! I love Asian flavours so this was a no brainer! I made them and now they are my latest snack obsession. They are high protein and fiber and so so good 🙂
