- Rolled Oats
- Chia Seeds
- Plain Greek Yogurt
- Almond Milk
- Vanilla Extract
- Almond Extract
- Icing Sugar (or other sweetener option)
- Birthday Sprinkles
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
Overnight oats are fantastic for meal prepping! It’s the easiest quick morning breakfast that you can make the evening before or even a day or two before as they keep well! The best thing about this recipe is that you can make it in one container which you eat out of so it’s even better for less mess and less stress weeks!
All you’ll need are some jars with a lid, a spoon, and measuring cups/spoons!
CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
You sure can! When I think of a standard cake, I think of almond and vanilla extract! Both flavours are the standard bakery flavours so that’s what I used for this! You can tailor the flavors to what reminds you of birthday cake.
For added protein, you can add in some vanilla protein powder or even some peanut butter! Of course, peanut butter will alter its flavor but still delicious if you’re a PB fan!
I use icing sugar for the sweetener in this but you can omit sweetener altogether if you don’t like sweet overnight oats or you can add in maple syrup, brown sugar, granulated sugar, or really any sweetener of your choice.
Sprinkles are a must but you can use whatever sprinkles you have on hand! I normally just use the small pearl-like sprinkles in rainbow colors!
WHAT DO BIRTHDAY CAKE OVERNIGHT OATS TASTE LIKE?
Birthday Cake Overnight Oats offer a delightful and nostalgic flavor reminiscent of a celebratory cake:
- Sweetness: Infused with a gentle sweetness reminiscent of cake batter, often achieved through vanilla extract and a hint of sweetness from sprinkles.
- Creaminess: The oats, combined with yogurt or milk, create a creamy and satisfying texture, similar to cake batter or frosting.
- Colorful and Fun: The addition of colorful sprinkles not only adds a joyful aesthetic but also a subtle crunch and bursts of sugary flavor.
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
Birthday Cake Overnight Oats can typically last in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days when stored in an airtight container. However, for the best taste and texture, it’s recommended to consume them within the first 24-48 hours after preparation.
Of course, since oats soak up liquid, the longer you leave it, the softer and mushier everything gets so if you like a “harder” bite, 2 hours minimum is a good amount of time to let your overnight oats soak before enjoying them!
I’ve often made oats for dessert and just prepared them before dinner and ate them a few hours later.
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?
I have been dabbling in different recipes for overnight oats to encourage myself to eat breakfast like a normal person and not eat balanced meals instead of waiting until lunch and feeling ravenous!
This birthday cake overnight oats is very yummy! I knew I would like it because I love almond-flavored anything so this is getting included in my regular rotation!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
Yes! Since the sprinkles are dyed, the color will bleed out. I would recommend if you can, to add in your sprinkles before you eat them in the morning OR if you want to add them while you’re making them, add them at the VERY end and just mix it slightly so that the colors don’t bleed and you’re not left with a sad bleeding rainbow of colors.
