I love sweet chilli sauce and mayo! I had no idea sweet chilli and mayo mixed together was called bang bang sauce until recently and find it such a fun name!
Generally, you see bang bang sauce on fried shrimp or fish pieces however, if you’re like me and avoid frying as much as possible, you’ll love this air fryer version! I love my air fryer so much and use it almost daily to cook and reheat my favourite foods!
Try out this Air Fryer Bang Bang Salmon recipe which is a fusion of crispy salmon fillets drizzled with creamy Bang Bang sauce. This recipe offers a blend of textures and flavors, marrying the succulence of perfectly cooked salmon with the zingy tanginess of the sauce. By using the air fryer, you achieve a crispy exterior while retaining the moistness of the salmon within, ensuring a satisfying bite every time.
Air frying not only provides a healthier alternative to deep frying but also delivers exceptional results in terms of taste and texture. With minimal oil, you can achieve that coveted crispy finish without compromising on flavor. The simplicity and efficiency of the air fryer make it an ideal kitchen companion for busy individuals seeking quick and delicious meals.
Bang Bang sauce, a signature element of this dish, adds a delightful creamy and spicy kick to the salmon. Made from a blend of mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and honey, this sauce elevates the flavor profile of the dish, creating a harmonious balance of sweet, savory, and spicy notes.

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER BANG BANG SALMON:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
You can find the ingredients to make Air Fryer Bang Bang Salmon at your local grocery store or supermarket. Look for fresh salmon fillets, mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and honey in the seafood, condiments, and baking aisles.
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients to make this delicious bang bang salmon in an air fryer are:
- Salmon Fillets
- Mayonnaise
- Sweet Chill Sauce (aka Thai sauce)
- Honey
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
The best thing about this recipe is that all you need is some common kitchen items like a cutting board, knife, bowls, measuring cups/spoons and of course, an air fryer! You can of course opt out to use an oven as well if you prefer!
Here are some of my Amazon favs that I own:
CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
Of course, you can! I have the most basic bang bang sauce recipe ever but I’ve seen so many variations online where they add more ingredients aside from just mayonnaise, honey and sweet chilli sauce. Some things you can add are garlic powder, paprika, rice vinegar, onion powder, green onions, sriracha, chilli oil, chilli flakes, lemon juice and so many more!
I use salmon as my protein for this however, this sauce goes really well with many different proteins. I’ve seen loads of people do bang bang chicken or shrimp! You can also cut your protein to any size as well. You can leave them as fillets or cut them into bite-sized pieces like I do! I find anything bite-sized so much more fun to eat!
I prefer to marinate my salmon in the sauce for an hour but honestly, you can definitely get away with just coating them in sauce and putting them straight in the air fryer. I always have extra sauce regardless so I love dipping them in more sauce as I eat it.
Last but not least, these are not quite crunchy as they don’t have any sort of breading or flour on them but if you’d like to make them crispy, you can lightly cover your protein with cornstarch and spray with cooking oil to get a crunch! You can alternatively bake this in the oven if you don’t have an airfryer!
WHAT DOES AIR FRYER BANG BANG SALMON TASTE LIKE?
Air Fryer Bang Bang Salmon has a delightful blend of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors. The combination of sweet chili sauce, mayo, and honey creates a tangy and slightly spicy sauce that complements the tender salmon perfectly. It’s a great mix of both creamy and sweet that will just leave you continuously wanting more!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
Air Fryer Bang Bang Salmon can typically be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. However, for the best taste and texture, it’s recommended to consume it within 1-2 days. I love to meal prep this recipe and I usually do 3-4 meal preps at a time. I find it reheats really well too! Salmon is such a great protein that can stay moist and tasty as leftovers!
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?
My inspiration for this recipe actually comes from McDonald’s weirdly enough! I haven’t had McDonald’s wraps in a while but my first job was at McDonald’s and I remember they had a wrap that was called the sweet chilli chicken wrap and the sauce was Mcchicken sauce and sweet chilli sauce combined and it was my fav! I used to just ask for the sauce on the side and dip some piping hot fries with it!
I’ve been on a health kick for half a year now so I’ve been incorporating more fish into my diet. The key for me was to not feel bored with my food so I keep thinking of new flavour combinations to try out! I remember briefly hearing bang bang sauce as something that people would enjoy so I did more research on it and knew I had to create my own easy version!
