I’m not afraid to admit that baking is not a strong skill of mine. I struggle with baking and although I’m at a way better place than I was years ago, I tend to still stick to the easier recipes!
This is when I discovered easier ways to make treats with pre-made baking goodies like cookie dough, puff pastry, and pie crusts! My favorite brands to use are Pillsbury or President’s Choice. In this recipe, I used Pillsbury’s Sugar Cookie Dough.

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE CANDY CANE SUGAR COOKIE BARS:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
You can find the ingredients for this Christmas dessert at any grocery store, especially during the holidays! They are super common in most parts of the world now. Candy canes might be the only thing that would be harder to find but you can get sugar cookie dough and white chocolate from most places.
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients to make these candy cane sugar cookie bars are literally only 3 things!
- Candy Canes
- White Chocolate
- Sugar Cookie Dough
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
The equipment you need for this recipe is really just one baking pan! I love how little mess you make with this recipe as some baking treats really use a lot of different dishes. If you want the cookie bars to be thicker, you can use a smaller square pan and make 9 bars. If you want the bars to be thin, you can use a larger baking dish. To crush the candy canes, I just use a ziplock and hit them with a wooden spoon but you can also use a mortar and pestle or food processor/blender!
CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
You sure can! I love providing recipes as guides or inspirations for everyone! I get lots of my recipe inspiration from other recipe creators to make them my own as well. You can use a different cookie base like gingerbread, shortbread, chocolate chip etc.
If white chocolate is not for you, you can use milk or dark chocolate too! All equally delicious 🙂
If you’d like it to be extra candy cane/peppermint tasting, you can also add in peppermint extra or candy cane extract to the cookie base or white chocolate! You can also add in other toppings like nuts or dried fruit. Yum!
WHAT DOES CANDY CANE SUGAR COOKIE BARS TASTE LIKE?
If you love white chocolate and candy cane, this one is for you! I love melted crunchy candy cane so this recipe is one of my favs. I love getting bars and loaves as treats when I visit Starbucks or other coffee shops so this just makes me happy to be able to make them in a super easy way at home.
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
These can definitely keep for a long time! I store mine in the freezer for up to a month and just thaw out what I want to eat. It tastes amazing fresh but you can definitely enjoy them at a later time too. You can store than on the counter at room temp for about 3-5 days then I do recommend storing them in the fridge and just taking them out when you can.
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?
I made the most delicious mini candy cane cookies recipe guest post for my other blogger friends, The Grumpy Olive, the year before this and thought what better than to take that recipe and basically transform it into another for my own! I love candy cane recipes after all and cookie bars seem like the right choice!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
The only note for this is that you’ll definitely need the cookie bars to cool as the white chocolate is all melted. I leave it on the counter for about 20-30 minutes then just pop in the freezer for about 10 minutes before cutting into them. If you’re using a glass baking pan, just be sure that the cookie bars are completely cool so they don’t crack!
