I don’t crave pie that often but when I do, I like making simple hand pies so that they’re bite-sized and I’m able to share them with anyone!
I can’t get myself to purchase a whole pie from the bakery as I feel like it’s a waste and goes bad quickly if not stored properly and I mean pies and pizzas are two of the most difficult things to store, am I right?

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE 3 INGREDIENT BLUEBERRY HAND PIES:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients to make these blueberry hand pies are pretty much available anywhere! The blueberry filling is a non-perishable item so if you’re unable to find it at the grocery store, you can certainly order it online. Pie crusts are generally located in your frozen section OR you can make your own crust if you’d like! It’ll just be a lot more ingredients. You’ll just need an egg for egg wash so your pies get a gorgeous brown crust on top!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS IN BLUEBERRY HAND PIES?
The 3 Ingredients used in these Blueberry Hand Pies are:
- Blueberry Pie Filling
- Pre-made Frozen Pie Crust
- Egg (for egg wash)
WHAT TYPE OF PIE CRUST SHOULD I USE?
So, I’m not a great baker (yet, working on it) so I use pre-made pie crusts and it’s usually the Pillsbury one and that’s why this recipe is a 3-ingredient super easy one. You’re welcome to use your own pie crust recipe or any other brand of pie crusts you prefer! Trust me, if I knew how to make an easy pie crust, I would use a homemade recipe!
WHAT IS THE TIME BREAKDOWN TO MAKE THIS RECIPE?
The time breakdown for these 3 ingredient blueberry hand pies are:
To Assemble – each pie crust, fill with blueberry and brush egg wash on top
Time: 5-7 Minutes
To Bake – the pies in the oven
Time: 23-25 Minutes
Total time: 30 Minutes
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
You don’t need a lot of equipment for these Blueberry Hand Pies! I suggest that you use whatever you have at home and make do as always but it doesn’t hurt to invest in good baking sheets, a circle cookie cutter and pastry brushes! Especially if you’re looking to bake a lot more this year!
CAN I SUB/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
Of course, you can! My recipes are always a guide but you can substitute or add in any ingredients you’d like! I love usually Pillsbury pie crusts as they are easy to handle but if you want to use a phyllo puff pastry or a butter puff pastry, that’s fine too!
I have been making these hand pies for a while and have put in an assortment of different fillings. You can definitely make this savoury and add in something like ham and cheese or spinach and feta or keep it sweet and use pumpkin pie filling, apple pie filling, cherry filling or even a vanilla custard filling!
This recipe has no sugar so if you want it a little sweeter, feel free to add in some sugar, syrup or honey!
You can do egg wash or if you brush your pastries with milk or cream or even water and are used to it, totally fine! Do what feels right 🙂
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
These blueberry hand pies are THE BEST! I love how lightweight they are and how it feels like you’re having a slice of blueberry pie but without having to cut into a whole pie. The pie crust is flaky and crisp, the blueberry pie filling is the perfect amount in every bite/hand pie and not sweet!
If you’ve been craving a blueberry pie, this is the recipe for you!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
These blueberry hand pies keep for a while! I keep them on the countertop in a dry, cool place stored in an airtight container for 5 days and they were still perfect. I’ve always put them in the fridge for my lunch and it was also so good! Since this recipe really only makes 9 hand pies, I doubt they’ll last longer than a week!
If you do end up wanting to store them for a later day, store them in an airtight container or ziplock for up to 1 month in the freezer. When you’re ready to eat it, warm it up in the toaster or oven and enjoy!
WHAT ARE OTHER VARIATIONS OF BLUEBERRY HAND PIES?
I love how easy and simple hand pies are and that you can either put sweet or savoury into them! Some other variations of hand pies that I adore are:
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS DISH?
I’ve made hand pies before on the blog and they are my absolute favourite. Hand pies are so easy to eat at home or on the go and make no mess! I used to crave pies but would hate going to the store and buying a whole pie and just letting it sit in the fridge after I’ve had a slice or two. I found it super wasteful and knew that there might be a better way to satisfy the craving!

No other notes for this blueberry hand pies recipe! I love it just the way it is and hope that you enjoy it too!

These look so yummy! I love that it’s easy to make as well as it is not a huge serving. Like you, I agree that buying something from the store just has too much and definitely goes to waste. So I prefer just to make enough that way everyone in the family can have a taste but everything gets consumed. Happy Monday!

Thanks Danielle! <3
How did I never think about making individual pies! Whenever we make them, we make big ones and struggle to finish them (it’s just too much pie!). I need to try making tiny ones like this! Love it!

Thanks so much for reading, Julia!! 🙂
I love how easy this blueberry pie recipe is! You’re so right about storing pie. This is a great way to make bite sized pies and not worry about any of it going bad. Thank you for sharing Lynn!
Thank you so much for reading! <3
Simple and it looks so yummy! This looks like just my type of dessert. While I like the IDEA of baking, it’s just too fiddly for me. Something like this, few ingredients, quick and doesn’t require a lot of attention — that’s just the thing I need! Thank you for passing it along!
